Yes, seems fairly common with lyme disease. Can also be caused by an autoimmune disease called sjogrens. Mine is mostly gone after the first year of treatment.

Your teeth and eyes can be damaged by excessive dryness. You may want to consider discussing the dryness with your eye doctor and dentist to see what they have available to help the situation until it gets better via treatment.

There are meds that you can take for it too.

Are you taking any herbs or supplements? I've had dry mouth after taking one herb so that I stopped that. Also, I found out my sugar tolerance is not as good as before. After taking some sweet food, i would feel dry mouth and fast heart-beating.

Our immune systme is down, so take good care of yourself.

ihatelyme i thought of a follow up question for you

im not taking any supplements right now and my dryness and other symptoms arent as bad but as soon as i take anything they flare

my question to you and anyone else is ... how is one of the symptoms of lyme 'new allergies and sensitivities' even though our immune systems are down????

b/c aren't allergies and whatnot caused by an overreactive immune system ?

thanks

Sans -
Didn't affect my skin initally but I have had dry skin off and on. I think it is more the saliva glands that were affected for me.

Right now I have dry skin but my eyes and mouth are in pretty good shape.

You may want to consider fish oil since Essential Fatty Acids are reported to help. Also, increasing your water intake may help.

Not everyone with sjogren's has dry skin but some do.

Lyme is well known to cause allergies and an over-reactive immune system. The immune system essesntially goes haywire.

I've heard that borrelia inserts it's DNA into ours and our immune system attacks our DNA. One of my docs said this explanation makes sense but is not proven.

I started to have very dry facial skin two weeks after IV antibiotics started. In the mean time,
I had other Vitamin-B deficiency symptoms. So I started taking Vitamin-B. It took about 2-3 months for my skin to return to normal.

Down or overreactive, sorry I did not know the difference, but immune system is kind of messed up.

Probably you can try to rule out diffent possible reasons.
