My husband had been using a testosterone gel for several months, due to low levels of free testosterone. Initially, it did give him more energy and some improvement in mood, but those good effects seem to fade over time.
A few days ago, he stopped using the gel, and his energy level and mood have been much better.
Any ideas as to why LESS testosterone should have helped? I'm scratching my head....

Hormones need to be balanced just right. If one or the other is too high, others are thrown off. If is a very delicate system.
If it doesn't feel right, don't do it. That has always been my motto.
Take care.

Thank you so much for your reply. You are validating my very fuzzy hunch about what's going on--that it has to do with the relationship between levels of hormones. My knowledge about this balance is so limited; I wish I understood more.
At his LLMD's suggestion, my husband has been taking Adrenal Support drops (Nutramedix). Could it be that now his adrenal glands are producing more testosterone, making testosterone supplementation less necessary?
However, what's puzzling is that despite the presumably higher levels of testosterone, the initial positive effects of supplementation are not evident.
We are going to be asking his LLMD about thyroid testing, as I understand that hypothyroidism can be an issue as well.
Gigi (and everyone), is there some way to do testing that gets at the balance of hormones, versus individual levels? Or must separate parts of the system (e.g., testosterone, adrenals, thyroid) just be tested separately, and inferences made on that basis?
And can you suggest any non-complicated readings on the hormone balance? I have read the relevant sections in The Lyme Disease Solution; anything else?
With many thanks, Viva
