I am relatively new. I posted about left side numbness (which is a bit better after 2 trips to the chiropractor). I also posted that I have fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed with lyme last fall (07). I am wondering if I have had lyme all the time. I am not currently on any treatment. I was on 2 courses of antibiotics and have had a negative lyme test (I know those aren't accurate). I lost some weight in the spring and decided to try to lose some more weight. When I weighed myself - I had lost weight while not trying. I also have PCOS and because of that - I don't lose weight without monumental effort. I am continuing to lose weight while trying not to, unheard of for me. I am so worried I have cancer or something else dire. Is it possible to have a symptom like that just show up if you have been the opposite of that for years while having lyme. I am going to my doctor on Monday - he is a good lyme doctor - I am sure if you are on the mid atlantic you have heard of him in waldorf.

I was never overweight, but I have lost weight without trying and was very concerned it might be something like cancer. It wasn't, it was the Lyme.

I have hypothyroidism and losing weight has always been very difficult for me. I have had friends and doctors accuse me of cheating on diets when I would only lose 1/4 to 1/2 pound a week (a good week in my eyes).
When I began to be symptomatic for Lyme, I lost about six pounds in one month and kept losing with no effort on my part.
I weighed in yesterday at 108. Kinda skinny.

In many, obesity can be caused by infections (viral or bacterial).
As the infections become addressed, the weight should drop without the major efforts you described of your past - just by good health habits.
this has happened to many lyme patients who gained a lot of weight for no apparent reason and it seemed to melt away as treatment for lyme and other infections was successful.
There is also the endocrine dysfunction that goes with infection. As the infection becomes corrected, hopefully, the endocrine system will heal.
Along those lines, the effects of stress can be tremendous - in either direction for weight. Stress of illness - physical, emotional, practical . . . can have a wide range of effects.
If health habits are otherwise good, infection/endocrine can cause severe weight loss or gain - it can be different for different people.

I was dx with lyme and babesia 5 months ago but started getting very sick 2 years ago. in the first 4 months I lost 40 pounds,then it just kept coming off so in the last 2 years I lost almost 80 pounds I was tested for every thing you can think of until I had IGenex do a lyme test and had a pos pcr, it was found in my DNA and had pos 41,39,31 on western blot. have done treatment for the co infection off and on between doxy and finally have gained 8 pounds in the last 5 months after treatment.I am waiting to see if my fish test for the babesia is still active, if so back to zithro and mepron. zithro makes my stomach worse than doxy, but gotta do what ever it takes.just want to keep the weight up. I have alot of stomach trouble, that has been one of my main symtoms, and always lightheaded and headpressure, but I do have to say I am feeling a bit better.
