Hi all,

I mentioned in another thread that I broke a tooth, but that was about two weeks ago I believe. Now, I notice my teeth are turning brown on the part of the tooth where it meets the gum where you would floss. I have always been a great flosser, brusher and always see my dentist every 6 months so I am not sure what is happening. Could probiotics cause this? I swish some of the probiotics around in my mouth prior to swalloing at times as per Dr. S in his book.

Thanks.

I doubt probiotics would do this. Yours don't contain some sort of sweetener by any chance?

Perhaps try doing the SECRET.

Thanks, this is a great link. I am really scared because I am a person who cares so much about my health and take care of my teeth - to see them turn brown is heart breaing and embarassing.

Antibiotics can turn teeth brown??? Is there anything I can do to counter this? I hate to call my doctor!

Richedie,
Having a change in appearance, especially in the face is a sensitive thing isn't it? Yes, some abx do discolor but that wasn't the cause for me.

Check with your dental hygenist. I also had some brown discoloration along the gum line that started after using sublingual supplements recommended by the llmd.

My theory was it the dye in the supplements. The stain was there no matter how often I brushed, flossed, used whitening rinse or whitening toothpaste. My teeth became sensitive from the scrubbing.

Anyway, the discoloration was mostly gone after my cleaning and the hygenist recommended a Sonicare toothbrush once per day plus continue with the rest of my regular care. So far no return of the brown two months later.

She had said to increase the frequency of cleaning appointments if the new toothbrush didn't help.

Keep smiling,

Grannie

Well....since starting abx, my teeth have been breaking.....or maybe this is related to Lyme. Regardless, I never had this problem. I just broke another today eating a cracker. [cussing] [Mad] [Frown]

I just broke another. [Frown] Could it be a nutritional imbalance caused by all the supplements? I am trying to think of things I am doing differently - abx, mepron, vit. C, fish oil, magnesium, thyroid supplement, iodine, probiotics, florastor, epicor, fluconazole(finishing from previous LLMD), multi. I think that is it.

My LLMD did say too much magnesium as a supplement could warrant me needing a calcium supplemnt. I take 400 mg a day plus whatever is in my multi(I forget).

Hey Richedie,

Gosh, that must be hard to take. How are your nails? are they thin and breaking easily too?

If so, I would look into a calcium deficiency maybe?

I also had my teeth turn brown along the gum line while on IV Rocephin....for me, the antibiotic caused it.

After my 6 mo cleaning all cleared.

Best,
Feelfit

my teeth turned brown just like yours and so did my moms. it began during IV treatment. we are also taking TONS of supps.

LLMD couldn't help so i saw the dentist in SEP.. my chops are good to go now!

we have not experienced any breakage but i did have 3 unexplained cavities. i'm on a sugar free diet (no sweets) and i brush 2-3x daily.

my dentist also suggested a Sonicare brush.. another $100!

Nails are strong and fine....just teeth. Should I mention this to my LLMD? I read that abx can cause tooth doscoloration and breakage as well as nutrient difficiencies. I read a few good sites and decided to add calcium to the list of supps since I take magnesium. A few respected sites run by doctors said to eat a head of romaine lettuce each day for two weeks to strengthen teeth.
