this has bothered me for years. some say with meals some without on the bottle.

DOES ANYONE REALLY KNOW WHAT IS BEST?

the new probiotic book i am reading (by taylor and mitchell) says with meals.

i figured out i could keep diarhea away with less probiotics if i took them on empty stomach when i was taking large doses of oral abx

i wish i understood which is best.

this is as complicated as balancing magnesium and calcium and what kind of calcium

i bought some and they said refrigerate and take with meals. then i bought more at vitamin shoppe and they were not refrigerated and said take 2 hours before meals.

it's confusing.

i understand theralac is the best and i think thy haveto be refrigerated.

Just make sure you don't take them with your abx. It probably sounds obvious to you, but it wasn't to me. I wanted to just "take all the pills". But my doc explained, as if to a 2 year old, the abx will KILL the good bugs if you ingest them at the same time. Duh.

I think it all depends on the probiotic and what it says to do on the label.

I think Dr. B. says to take them with meals 3 times a day in his guidelines.

I think right before bed is a good time because that way they sit in your GI tract a long time undisturbed hopefully.

I also like to do a spoon of a good brand of plain yogurt before bed too. Yogurt may not do much but it is part of my bedtime ritual.

I thought you were going on vacation. [Big Grin]

I take mine at night on a mostly empty stomach.

I take most of my meds with meals, so I can't take my probiotics then.

Hugs,

Geneal
