Is it the Zith, or the Lyme?? The last couple of days, I have had horrible, intense, shooting pains in my left ear. They are intermittent...and make me almost jump when they happen.

Hey Faith...

Sorry it is so painful.

You are guessing two things it could be... zith or Lyme which is very possible... but it could also be a pinched nerve?

I certainly can't tell for sure... wish I could.

But I think you should contact your doctor and have it checked.

In the meantime, hope you feel better.

I hadn't heard of anyone getting this but me so when I saw your posting I opened it right away. I recognized your description righ away. It's a sharp pain but also hurts when you push on the bottom outside of the ear, close to your head? My got so bad it even hurt to sometimes turn my head a certain way. I've never had ear infections, even as a child so I know it isn't that. The ear pain is most definetly the lyme not the zith. I'm positive about this because I had never experienced any type of ear pain until I went off all meds last fall. It was a new symptom development for me. I even went to the ear doctor, told her when she went to look at my ear, "I know its going to look bad. It hurts horribly right now." She looked and then said, "looks great, nothing appears to be abnormal." which totally shocked me and probably made her think I was nuts although she didn't say so. Anyhow after experiencing this off and on for about three months it disappeared on its own and only recently appeared again during a herx time for me. Only lasted a couple of days this time. It's odd though that it did happen about the same time of the year as last. Its not the zith.

I had extreme ear pain, but had no idea about lyme disease. I was told it was bruxism. Guess what? Lyme.

It could be the lyme &/or the zith.

Please let your doctor know if this does not ease up. Zith can be very hard on some people's ears and you may need to switch. (Minocycline and Biaxin also cause some people trouble - some do fine - but these three abx are the most problematic for those who have ear / abx side-effects.)

Ear pain can also be caused from bruxism, grinding of teeth. Many lyme patients have bruxism that resolves with treatment and detox support measures and support for the nervous system.

Some things that help the muscle tension AND pain are Magnesium with B-6 (P-5-phosphate is the precursor and is better).

Also helpful may be cranial-sacral therapy (gentle, gentle - not snap and crack).
