I was infected w/Lyme about 3 weeks ago, had EM and started Amoxicillin 2 wks ago. Now that I'm not breastfeeding, should I switch to Doxicyclin? My dr. says stick with Amox. I want to make sure the Amox. kills the Lyme.
I am still having neck/head pain and stiffness. Today I also had ankle joint pain for the first time.
How do I know Amox. is working? Is the Lyme spreading or is it really the Amox. killing the Lyme giving me symptoms?

What dose of Amoxicillin? It can take a very high dose of Amoxicilllin to affect lyme.
I think CaliforniaLyme was on 4500 mg/day throughout a pregnancy, and another fellow agreed with that dose. Sixgoofykids was on 10.5 grams per day, prescribed by Dr H.
I tried 4500 and it did nothing. My MD put me on Augmentin, (which is partly amoxicillin), which gave me diarrhea during all 4 doses, after which i refused to take any more.
If anyone knows how to take Augmentin successfully and how to prevent the diarrhea, i'd like to know.

Hi Fire--
If it was me I would go with 400 to 600mg of Doxi a day --for 4 to 6 weeks
Doxi has a proven track record of being effective for treating Early infection -
Dont let doctor talk you into taking Only 200mg of doxi a day - This low dose is NOT enough-
With proper treatment you will be germ free in 6 weeks or so --Jay--

I am taking 3500 mg a day. I guess that is not enough. I really want to switch to Doxi though. Thanks for the input! -Fire
