I'm not sure if the trouble my daughter is having is side effects of the malarone she is taking.
She is very weak, nausea, stomach pain, acid reflex worse than usual, headache, sore throat. She doesn't want to eat which of course makes her weak.
Her babesia test was negative. Isn't malarone for babesia?(I realize tests can be wrong)
How do you know what is lyme, what is the medicine?
The past few days she also had a really bad sore throat, 102 degree fever that is going around. Of course this complicates everything.
Her school is getting fed up with her absences and I feel I need to straighten this out quickly.
Her LLMD is overwhelmed and I have to minimize my questions with him. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you. Karen

I have been taking malarone for babesia. I haven't heard of it being used for anything else, but I guess it's possible it can help with lyme.
I'd be surprised if he prescribed that though if he didn't feel she had babesia.
It didn't cause me too many side effects, but your daughter is much younger and smaller than I am. I believe the side effects do include nausea.
You say that something is going around in your community... is it possible that that might be causing her symptoms?
Is she on any other antibiotics right now? If no, maybe she caught some different type of bacterial infection from the kids at school (strep, or whatever else might be going around).
I'm not much help here... it's so hard to tell what is lyme, what is a herx, what is a side-effect and what is something entirely different.
I hope someone else with more experience can contribute some more helpful information for you.

She is having a classic Babesia Herx - if you do not have any response to Malarone then you probably dont have babesia.
I am on Malarone and have hit the worse Babesia herx ever it is totally debilitating with Sore Throat, High Temperature, Severe headache/Brain swell, sickness and a cycling depression
Also look to see if she has any small red blood spots (petechiea) that have popped out as that is classic.
I am told that the babs herx lasts up to 7 weeks and needs to be treated for a long time
I was negative on my 1st test but after starting babs meds I am now highly positive, so tests can be very unreliable.
Call her LLMD to check her response but I would bet its a Babesia Herx.
