After this last go around, I gave up and called his office explaining what is happening. They never returned my call. Soooo, I'm firing this DINK (doctors in need of knowledge).

He has been adamant that it's IBS and flatly refuses to listen to any other explanation.

I am still suffering pain but it has moved to mostly the left side under rib now. I am doing almost no/low fat but it is very difficult. But the diet seems to have eliminated the pain under the right rib and bloated feeling.

If anyone knows of a good gastro in the fort worth area, could you please send me a PM.

I am back on biaxin/cipro/diflucan/nexium and hoping it will help.

Good idea!!

You might want to begin with ONE of the above meds at a time to see how you react.

Randi...probably a dumb question, but you're on a probiotic, right? You may want to increase the probiotic a bit to see if that helps.

When it comes to ibs, often you'll find triggers that make it worse. Quite often those triggers are often ones that affect migraines as well.

http://www.irritable-bowel-syndrome.ws/eating-for-ibs-diet.htm

The best thing is to start with a very bland diet and see how your body reacts, then once you know its ok, start adding back foods. If something starts the ibs crud, its likely a trigger.

Someone once told me that often times the foods that you crave the most are the ones that your body has issues with. As with an allergic reaction, you crave it, but its bad for you.

There was an at home method for testing foods, but Im not sure I remember it correctly... I think you check your temp, then put food on tongue..dont swallow, then recheck your temp again. If your temp rises you might be allergic? If you have allergies to certain foods, it will trigger problems all the way through your digestive system, including the ibs areas below.

But Id go backwards and as bland as possible, or do the BRAT diet for a while (bananas, rice, applesause, toast), to get things to calm down.

I just had C Diff. Along with the abx I was given, I went to Costco and got VSL #3. Best probiotic on the market, certainly not the cheapest. This seems to have helped my stomach pain quite a bit.

Has your doc ordered a colonoscopy or endoscopy?

Is it possible you have lyme in the gut?

I've had x-rays, ct scans, upper and lower abdominal series, mrcp, bloodwork, you name it.

I have no gallbladder. Since my enzymes are always normal, the doctor won't do an ercp because he says it's too dangerous.

I had 1/2 of a subway sandwich yesterday with only turkey and diet mayonnaise. I was in such pain last night I took two toriodol and todday I am literally doubled over.

The pain has now moved and stays under the left rib.

I've got to do something as this is going to cost me a fortune, my life, my marriage, everything. I literally can't eat and IBS does not cause pain at night. I do not have lower abdominal pain.

I do have the floating oily stools which is a malabsorption symptom.

But that dink could have at least called me!!!!

i have been dealing with the same or very similar problem. my gi did agree to send biopsies from endo and colon to the labs the llmd wanted. i don't have results yet. but all the gi said after the procedure was i am fne. its ibs. what he meant was there was no cancer so he didn't have a client to make big bucks on so go away.

i have been on prevacid for 7 yrs. that is not ok. i know what no acid is doing to me.

recetnly i did find a really good book that said probiotics will fix jst about any gi problem. if you search my name or numer you will find it. i'll also try-but i am borrowing a friends computer now and don't have much time.

you have to use a lot of probiotics tho and good quality and away from food is best.

i still feel like i have a bowling ball hiding in me somewhere and someday they will find it and make some lame excuse about why they didn't find it sooner.

oh-this gi? he was the third after firing the first 2. they said it was gluten..3 days after the first said that i had an emergency appendectomy...the other i just ignored and moved on. at least i know i don't have cancer...

I'm doing research and found that probiotics are dangerous, even fatal, to individuals who may have pancreatitis.

Goggle pancreatitis and probiotics and you'll find lots of studies on it.

I think right now I'm going to stay away from probiotics until I find out what's really going on.

The possibility of taking something that could possibly even kill me is just something I don't want to risk right now.

Randi.... a huge possibility.....

GLUTEN

You ate a sandwich and are doubled over. Big sign. Have you ever gone off gluten ENTIRELY for several weeks to see what would happen???

You have to be very careful to eliminate every single source of gluten.

Ditto what Lymetoo said.

Sub? OMG. The roll is a killer if you've got gluten issues.

Randi,
Gluten is a protein found in rye, wheat and barley. It is very well possible that you might be allergic to gluten; however, I need to tell you that I had the exact same symptoms as you have, was tested for allergy to gluten and went on a gluten-free diet, only to find out that it was not the gluten, but soy, among many others, I was allergic to. If you have any food allergies you are aware of, you may want to get tested by an allergist or immunologist.
Hope you find an answer soon.

If that doesn't work, randi, try eliminating all grains for at least 2-3 weeks and see how you feel. Works for me!

I avoid all grains, esp gluten, then soy.
