Hi Gang,

As many of you know, I had my appendix removed 6 weeks ago this Wed. I got home from the hospital on Sun Sept 14th with an RX for:
Oxycodene/APAP 5 MG-325MG Tablets (percocet).

Instructions were to take 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours or as needed for pain. So I was taking approx 4 a day for at least 3 weeks.

Knowing it can be addicting and the pain was lessening, I started weaning down to 2 a day, then 1 a day, then 1/2.

BUT, last Tuesday, I woke up with stabbing pains in my abdomen (ended up being my monthly "friend") but the pain was relentless so I took like 1 1/2 tablets THAT day and then 1/2 on Wed.

Thursday, Friday, Sat,& Sun I took only 1/4 tab each day. All gone. Now I'm cold turkey.

Symptoms: nausea, tight fist-like feeling in middle of stomach, runny nose, flu-like malaise, and mild headaches. I read on google that these are typical Percocet withdrawal symptoms.

If anyone has any experience with this, I'd be grateful for validation, especially since I was doing SO well before the appendix removal.

Furthermore, I haven't had GI problems like this for over 6 years...not even during Bart treatment so I WANT to believe it's just coming off of this horrific drug but I have no point of reference.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

sounds like withdraw but 3 weeks i doubt is long enough for your mind to become addicted

i was on 40-70mg day for 18 month and cold turkeyed myself a month ago and it was hell.

very hard, felt like death.

your symptoms do sound like withdraw tho.

if it is, it should clear after 2 week, much better after one.

if not, look into other possible explanations.

hang in there. it sucks, i know

my withdraw was worse than any lyme symptoms i ever experienced.

derek

Thanks, D. I appreciate your input. And yeah, if I'd known the withdrawal would suck so much, I would have taken less and less much earlier on but did the docs warn me? Nahhhh.

Ok, so I'm only on day 2 cold turkey and doing fair. I won't expect any "miracles" for another week or two.

Thanks again and sorry for your agonizing experience, as well!
