My 14 1/2 yr old daughter is seeing an LLMD who started her on IV Rocephin August 17. My insurance only covered 30 days. Now the LLMD is giving us the IV Rocephin, doc visits, weekly bandage changes, Heparin, Saline, and all the other med supplies necessary for $100 a day. She is nearing the 70 day mark and we have already taken out a $6,000 home equity loan to cover the extra 60 days.
I think she needs to stay on it longer since she's been sick for so long (snince she was 5 yrs old and had an IV when she was 8 yrs old) and now we're just beginning to see improvements. She has very bad neuro lyme with bipolar, severe depression, rages, memory problems, concentration problems, learning problems, and other psych problems.
I'm afraid to stop and he said he'd consider continuing, but we are really strapped for money. I can't imagine another $3,000 to $6,000 in loans, but I can't imagine going back to the way she was before!
I am so heartbroken and absoutely HATE this stuff! Also, my 15 yr old son (who contracted lyme at the same time as my daughter, he was 6 yrs old) has been sick since May when he developed an infection in his face after having wisdom teeth pulled.
I think it's his lyme resurfacing....then to top that...he got bit by another deer tick about 7 days ago and there is still a raised bluish mark and looks like a ring is forming.
He hasn't been himself personality wise since the infection in May and now he's even getting worse. He is having memory problems and learning problems in school now too. I can't imagine if I have to get him into a PICC line too!! I can't say no to him, but yes to her.
Does anyone have any idea what other options I may have in finding a cheaper route for IV meds or mabye another doc? I am truly stuck and feel so helpless watching them suffer so much. If only I was born weathly!
I just want my kids to have a normal childhood (which they've already been robbed of due to this horrid disease), but even just a chance at getting rid of some of the more severe problems would be such a gift.
If anyone has a suggestion on the Rocephin, another doc in PA willing to do that, or how else I can get the PICC line taken care of please send me a personal message.
Thanks for the support and for taking time to read about a mother's helplessness.
God Bless,
