Diagnosed with Lyme and Babs 2+ years ago, after being infected for nearly 20 years.
Started with pretty basic treatment with LLMD, who sent me to a specialist after the first year.
Have been in intense treatment with the specialist for about 1yr, 4 months.
Came down with a cold 3 weeks ago, one week into it my lymph nodes under my arm swelled up and were very painful for a week.
It has lingered and my ear started to bother me a few days ago. Went to regular MD yesterday to find I have a big inner ear infection.
I have never had an ear infection in my life. Dr. was quite surprised that I developed this infection despite the meds I am already on.
She prescribed a week long zithro pack (I've notified Lyme dr.). Now I'm getting quite worried about what this all means.
After more than 2 years on various antibiotics and other meds (list below) - quite aggressive treatment, although haven't done IV yet - I am not better.
Some symptoms have improved: night sweats, flushing, almost gone, and chronic nausea is less chronic. I think this may be from Babs getting wiped out by Mepron.
But, fatigue and pain are still my mostly companions. And random secondary infections are finding a way to survive and thrive in my system!
Should I do IV to try and knock the Lyme out (Lyme doc has been opting for shots instead)?
Is staying on the meds this long making me susceptible to super bugs?
I feel like I'm pumping all of these meds into myself every day (that's my job, to get them all in my body), not getting better, and perhaps increasing my risk of developing infections that can't be treated.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Current regime: Invanz 1 gram injection daily Ketek (will stop while on Zithro) Zithro (as of yesterday) Mepron - 3 tsp. 2x per day Plaquenil Trental Nystatin Homeopathics for liver, lymph, kidney Armour thyroid Various herbs and supplements
Have used: Bicillin injections Biaxin Doxy Another abx I can't remember the name of Rocephin (allergic) other anti-malarials

Welcome!
Kinda late for me.. but will mention before I hit the hay that there hasn't been a case of developing antibiotic resistance in Lyme patients.
Hope that will make you more relaxed. Glad you are seeing some improvement... but yes... it is discouraging to not be perfect after pumping all that stuff in you. I understand how you feel.
Others will help in more detail later and will address your other issues... sorry I can't right now.

Thank you, Tincup. It definitely does help to hear that you don't know of any cases of antibiotic resistance in Lyme patients.
And, it certainly is nice to know others understand. I wish I felt well enough to visit the board more often. Oh, the irony!

Your concern is a huge fear of mine as well. It's like what do you hit a bug with after they've seen it all? I hope more people can give definitive, reassuring replies.

Quick note again... sorry you are not getting my full 100 percent attention. Scattered and only short visits.
This is not just my opinion and observation about the resistance situation.
The IDSA (who rarely says ANYTHING to help us) have admitted this is the case... and published it.
They have no cases of antibiotic resistance associated with Lyme treatment.
And believe me.. if it were something they could use against us... to prevent us from getting long term antibiotics... they would.
