I just took my first dose of mepron (1 tsp) and took it with some fatty food (avocado and almonds).
Almost right away I have a drunk feeling. Has anyone else experienced this? Will this get better as I continue?

Update: So after I posted this morning and took the mepron I had an extreme reaction!
I am really looking for some support (and to vent) because I'm miserable and scared!
I started feeling extremely dizzy and couldn't coordinate thoughts, walking, talking, anything. This gave me a panic feeling.
It has now been 4 hours and I still feel extremely out of it (that drugged feeling) but it is extreme. Like I'm having a hard time processing anything.
I emailed my LLMD and she wrote back right away to stop taking the mepron. She said when the dizziness is gone we will consider reintroducing at a lower dose.
Is this a herx or reaction? I seriously never want to take this drug again!!!!
I just had to give a presentation at work. I don't know how I did it. I think people thought I was drunk!

Yes, I had that same reaction at first with malarone and with bicillin.
I think it was a herx in my case, maybe yours too.
Hope you feel better soon. The dizziness and drunk feeling did go away over time.

i have had many of those same symptoms on mepron. dizziness, can't talk or think , heart stops for 3-4 seconds at a time, nausea, anxiety, breathing trouble and so on.
I have now been on it for 7 months with biaxin xl and bicillin. I assume these were long lasting herxes, because I don't really have any of those symptoms anymore.
At first mepron for me was rough, but it paid off in the long run.

lar08: I agree w/onjo58 and think it's a herx. As for other breakfast foods to take it with, bacon, sausage, whole milk.

I guess I forgot to mention I'm a vegetarian. Maybe I should eat meat while taking mepron though otherwise it's eggs every morning
My LLMD told me to stop taking it but after reading your responses I'm wondering if it was an extremely bad herx.
It's just strange because I took it the night before and was fine after about an hour. But the next morning felt HORRIBLY drunk and it lasted almost 8 hours!!!
I don't know when or if she wants to introduce it. I don't have another appt. until the beginning of January and I don't want to stay on the same protocol of Omnicef/Zith until then because I don't think it's doing very much.
(I'll admit it's only been about 6 weeks and I'm impatient but don't feel much different).
Thanks everyone for your help! This is all very new to me!

I had the same reaction when I tried Mepron. I only took a 1/4tsp and had that reaction, plus I had already been on malarone for almost a year
when we tried the mepron. I was only taking one a day of the malarone. My doctor told me to
stop taking it too. He thought it was a side effect, but I am not sure about that. I have
not started it again since. Now, we are going after bart w/ rifampin and having good results with it.
Will your Dr. do a phone consult to change your meds. Maybe you can malarone it is not as strong at the mepron. Marcie

I feel got so lucky> i knew it cost a lot and my doctor said GOOD LUCK when I got my first prescription. Well for ONE month SUPPLY of 600ml.. I paid 35 Dollars. WOW Huh?? I was so happy and relieved. I do not get why it would vary so much from insurance to insurance and it is not FAIR> Everyone should have the same price and access to it .. and at most a different co pay.. Sorry you had such a bad expereince in the cost..
