Okay, guys, what's the scoop on this one? My LLMD mentioned that it was discussed at a lyme conference.
It seems to be a new thing, though, so I'd like to know if you still need to be on actigall, like you would on IV rocephin?
I saw another thread listing insomnia as a side effect. Any others you guys are experiencing?
What about the "don't hit the blood vessel or else rule?" Is it as dangerous in a blood vessel as bicillin is?
I think that's about all my questions, but if you want to contribute anything else here on IM rocephin, please do, and thanks!

its not new, been available for a long while now.
IM rocephin is a novel idea.
administered IV, one maintains proper blood levels and the drug does its job this way.
via IM, it does not hold blood levels as much, but still provides some benefit.
one of my drs advises people use this in conjunction with oral abx and anti fungals when the response prior is poor.
often time these IM shots will give the body a jump whereas before therapy was failing.
if you are very sick though, and can afford IV rocephin, i would reccommend that over IM anyday.
i am currently on IM bicillin, and it has been helping me tremendously. I do not have access to IV until May of next year due to insurance reasons.
the last thing id like to say is that IM rocephin is really cheap since it comes in the generic form ceftriaxone. easy to obtain, easy to administer, and cheap. also, the needle/s traditionally are smaller and much less painful than IM bicillin which is nice as mu butt tired of being stuck with a thin piece of metal 3x week for a year

ps- the sidfe effect of insomnia mentioned above is not really drug spesicic, any drug can cause any person to have different reactions. it cannnot be pinpointed to one drug in one form usually.

Rocephin can be given IM or IV so it is probably less dangerous than Bicillin if some gets int a vein or blood vessel.
The main thing is that IM rocephin really MUST be mixed with 1% Lidocaine instead of water. Otherwise it is the most painful injection I have ever gotten. I had to lie down and normally shots don't faze at all.

everyone's body and pain threshold is different.
i do not use lidocane with the bicillin shots and the needle used with them is quite larger than with rocephin..
it is reccommended to be used with lidocane though if you have access to it

Can you PM me the info on where to get the generic IM rocephin and supplies?
My doc wants me to start IM shots and of course my insurance won't cover it.

When discussing the discomfort level of IM Rocephin I was not referring to the size of the needle. It can go through a thinner needle than Bicillin. Rather, I'm talking about the nature of the medication itself. Some cause stinging, some cause aching, or combinations thereof. Rocephin is very caustic. If anyone doesn't believe me, try it without Lidocaine and let me know what you think.

i have done Im rocephim w and without lidocane.
Oksy the intial sting without lidocane hurts like hell for a few seconds. THe real issue is after you inject it leaves the biggest bruise ever! I had them all over the body.
IMO get a port...not PIcc. Just infuse. the rochepin premix bags I can get for 12 bucks. It's the supplies that is expensive...huber needle, IV admmin kit...tubeing...gloves...starting looking for chaep admin supply@
