Same here. My WBC count has been VERY low for over six years (and I was bit and infected about 10 years ago). Normal counts for WBC should be 4.0 - 10.5 usually. Mine has always been 2.0 - 3.0. Has never really been higher than that.
I recently had a bone marrow biopsy just to check for other things that could possibly cause such a low count. It came normal. No leukemia, bone cancer, etc. For a while, I was actually worried about that because I've had it low for so long.
My bone marrow is making the right amount of white blood cells, but then after they are released into the body.... they are disappearing or being killed somehow.
My LLMD thinks it's probably the lyme or co-infections doing it.

Doc,
I just read your last post, and I feel terrible for this child.
I did some research as to causes of low wbc and found this: causes can include rickettsia infection, malaria, anemia, tb ,etc.
I know that HME(human monocytic erlichiosis) attacks and infects the white blood cells.
Is there any chance Johns Hopkins will consider testing for these? Also hookworm can cause anemia.
I will say a prayer,
Gael
