Hey all,
we are going to Disney world in December and I am trying to find a way to cope with pain while on vacation. My doctor said extra Vitamin C and Fish Oil but is this enough? I was thinking some form of anti-inflamatory or maybe Neurontin? I hate thought of a vacation with my wife and 5 year old and me being in pain walking around! I may have to bring crutches.

Have you thought about a mobility scooter? Disney rents them. Just a thought to help you get around better!

Oh, crutches can be so painful on their own. I'm sure they have scooters you can rent. You could still walk some but by saving your energy where you can that will make for a more enjoyable experience.
Same with the airports - call your airline ahead for wheelchair service. It's a life-saver. And, you can get up and walk when you can.
And. . . if you hesitate, realize that most of us would rent a scooter for a twisted ankle, so that puts it in perspective.
Does magnesium and B-6 help for pain - that helps me. Even very tiny doses of neurontin caused awful vertigo and muscle weakness for me. I've not found one pain med that does not have these effects for me, but you have time to test out some beforehand.
For me, magnesium is so helpful - with the fish oil and other supplements.
A gluten-free diet helps a great deal in lessening pain for me, too. I'm sure even Disney has some choices, too, so this may not be so hard if you ask in advance.
Hey, you might ask if they have a nurse's station where you can go take a nap if you need to do so. Can you schedule a massage or two while you are there?
I'd also stay off the Tea Cups. Seriously. Wish I had known.
But they have lots of great rides that don't induce vertigo. It is a magical kingdom and I hope you have a great time.

WDW in Florida?
Absolutely rent an electric scooter!!! You will get to the head of lines!!!
And...be sure to use the quick pass system.
You WILL LOVE the ride called Soarin' in The Land at Epcot!!! It is my absolute favorite. Head for that one FIRST...and get a quick pass. It is one of the newest rides and the lines are long/quick passes go fast. The Land is a good place to eat too...lots of selections for various "tastes". I like Living with the land too...very educational for adults and kids(hydrophonic grown foods). It is a nice boat ride.
Do NOT do (in Epcot) Mission Space - orange team! I don't have lyme and I could barely stand it. It is extremely intense...extremely.
You should be okay on many/most of the other rides.
How old are your children and how many do you have - just the one 5 year old? Which parks (MK, Epcot,Animal Kingdom, MGM...all of them = yikes) are you going to see? Where are you staying (Disney transportation?)...already have tickets?
I live in Florida and have been to WDW many times...just last March with daughter and grandaughter (age 4, tall...she loved test track to my amazement!).
If you have any questions, just PM me and I will try to fill you in. "Insider" info. helps.
Re: pain.
Humira (Rx, shot) will help, not cure, but help. It reduces TNF alpha a fair amt.

I just got back from Disney with the family. Also went this time last year as well.
I rented a scooter from an outside agency so i could take it to and from my hotel. This is a great help as the walk from the entrance of the park to the monorail or trams can be long.
Pace yourself. I sometimes went back early for a nap or stayed in later and met them at the park.
Here is the odd thing-while in disney-i felt great-both times. headaches that plagued me at home and fogginess and pain, seemed to ease away just a bit. you know, disney is a magical place....

I go to Disneyland at least 5 time a year...I have to...it keeps me sane. My husband pushes me around in a wheel chair (cost is 12 bucks for the day) or I will rent an electric wheel chair (mobility chair) which is about $35 bucks for the day but totally worth it!
I tool around with ease, and my fatigue level is decreased 10 fold rather than walking all day and being useless within 2-3 hours.
You can take up to six people to the front of the line with you so you don't have to wait for the rides (many of the lines for the rides have stairs so there is a special wheelchair entrance!)
Sitting all day can make you really stiff if you are dealing with severe arthritis like I have. I do get out of the chair every so often and walk my chair around or let my hubby ride the electric one. It's nice to have a place to carry your extra stuff too!
I used to feel embarrased using a wheelchair at Disney but I KNOW what my limitations are so I don't give a flying flamingo what anyone else thinks when I get out of my chair to get on a ride, because I'm not in a cast or appear to be disabled on their standards ! I refuse to have a victim mentality! This is life for me right now. Deal with it baby!!
Have a great time at Disney World and relax. I know it's hard to take a day off of being sick but when you make the effort to get out of your self and be a kid for a day or two, it's like a vacation from yourself!
Have you tried diclofenec for pain? It's an old NSAID that is hardly prescribed anymore but it sure has helped me feel better!
