I've been having problems with my left ear being blocked up, itching, and even painful infections. Does anyone know of a connection? I know Lyme can cause problems just about anywhere but I am wondering if the treatment is any different than a regular ear infection or if it will even work since I am already on antibiotics. I have had hearing loss that comes and goes and I am concerned about permanent damage and hearing loss.

All sorts of ear problems are frequently seen in lyme and other TBD. Be sure to let your doctor know.

Also, are you sure it's an infection? Have you seen a doctor?

Sometimes, pain can be for other reasons. Do you grind your teeth at night? If so, does magnesium and B-6 help?

Do you have neck pain? If so, cranial-sacral therapy (gentle - not snap and crack) might help.

Some meds and over the counter products can contribute to ear symptoms. Aspirin, especially. Lists are at the Tinnitus thread below. Vicodin (hydrocodone), a pain med, can be especially damaging to hearing, too.

I do hope you can find the care you need around this.

Sometimes the meds need to be rotated. And you might try a diet free of gluten, dairy and corn and see if that helps remove some ear congestion.

The itching may indicate candida or mold reactions (either internally or from environment).

Ginger capsules may be of help.

Good luck.

One of these ear drops (or a similar type) may relieve itching. Just one drop, though. Then loosely put a piece of cotton ball in and it will continue to work for you.
