Does anyone else here have Asthma as well as Lyme?

I know that using steroids is a big no no because it weakens your immune system, but the inhailer I use is a steroid and It is what helps me breath better.

Anyone else here dealing with this issue?

Asthma has to be treated. My understanding is that the amount of steroids in asthma inhalers is relatively small, and the most advanced are non-systemic.

I was diagnosed with asthma for years, and treated with an inhaler as needed. But it turned out that my asthma was really untreated lyme and babesia, and after treatment for tick-borne diseases for some time, I was able to get rid of my inhaler. That was a year ago and I have not needed it since.

Have you been checked for babesia by an llmd? It can mimic the symptoms of asthma.

Yep, Had asthma for over 40 yrs(rushed to the hospital many times) I used the inhaler because not breathing was not an option.

I have been symptom free for about 2 yrs since tx for Lyme & co.

Also high doses of vit c helped with the asthma. So mine was definitely Lyme related.

Interesting topic here.

In Nov, 2007 my bp shot up to extremely high levels, which has been controlled via meds

In March, 2008 I was diagnosed w/ adult onset asthma due to the fact that I was experiencing serious shortness of breath.

Just last week I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy in all 4 limbs.

I have been seeing a LLMD (go back for lab test results next Friday).

I hate to hope for Lyme, but at least it would explain all of the crazy things that have been going on.

I know that neuropathy can affect bp and breathing and such.

I wonder if all of this could be related.

Interesting...

I have had Asthma my entire life ( lucky me!!!)

I have been seeing my LLMD (Dr F in PA) since July now and have had the complete co infection panel done at igenex in Sept. The only positive result was a 1:80 for Human Monocytic Ehrlichia.

Had several Western Blots done and only hitting the 41 band. My Chiroprator tells me that you can only get a positive test 7 days out of the month ?

My LLMD dr. tells me it could take awhile to get a positive.

My asthma went away after 12 weeks of Minocin 2X a day. I've been off of inhalers for 2 years now.
In my case, the steroid in the inhalers made my raging candida problem much worse.

My B/P has also sky-rocketed to 170/120. This was after dropping my thryoid meds. After moving to a rural town, my new doc wouldn't refill my meds.

This new doc tried about 20 different meds to get my blood pressure under control but nothing was working. After many trips to the ER, I begged my OB/GYN of 25+ years to write a RX for my thyroid meds. My B/P magically came down about 4 weeks after getting back on thyroid meds.

I have Bb, Babs & Bart plus pulmonary sarcoidosis. I have not had any luck getting rid of the sarcoid after 2.6 years of Abx therapy.

I've had rounds of prednisone that I had no choice to take even after lyme and company Dx. I slide back down the progress hill when I have to be on it, but as my LLMD says- asthma can kill you right then and there if you don't seek appropriate treatment during really severe times or attacks. Gotta breathe.

I've been using Asmanex (steroid inhaler) for a year or so now and the only complaint I have is that I started to get oral thrush. I've used other steroid inhalers in the past without a problem. While on any kind, make sure to wash your mouth out really well right after you inhale it, gargle, etc.
