Chiropractor claims to cure fibromyalgia

LAKE TAHOE, CA (KGO) -- A south Lake Tahoe chiropractor claims he has discovered the cause of a painful, chronic condition. He charges patients thousands of dollars for his cure. But the I-Team has uncovered serious questions about whether it works and whether the treatment is perhaps even dangerous.

-------

Having been diagnosed with fibromyalgia prior to Lyme - I tend to think it's snake oil...

I'm in favor of alternative therapies but you do have to be cautious.

excerpts from article pretty much speak for reason to avoid this.

". . . a quick neck manipulation, three times a day, five days a week, for at least two months. "

. . . Schulte is among at least nine patients who have filed complaints with the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

"I contacted maybe 40 to 60 people, and a high majority of them were ill again," says former patient and employee Susan Uribe. "

AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.

I would NEVER suggest anyone with an infection such as lyme that can be in the neck and brain ever get quick manipulations.

Any body work needs to be gentle.

Fendenkrais (sp?), Upledger cranial-sacral . . . both excellent.

I guess this story reminds me of the way "they" go after so-called "quack" doctors... (like many LLMDs) In this case, I think he may deserve it.

There are people who pray on the misfortune of people who are ill & can't seem to figure out why. It's tricky since there is a psychosomatic factor to illness. Some people actually do feel better who were treated by this man.

I remember reading his website when I thought I had fibro... Many of the people he treated got symptoms after having an accident. Who knows if they have Lyme or some other illness.

There are others like this doctor out there. You just have to be cautious.

OK......I am a Chiropractor and I dont think this guy has a clue.......except on how to make money......I am all for giving spinal adjustments for helping with soft tissue and spinal injuries.....And it can help to stimulate the nervous system.....

But......you dont need all of these spinal manipulations, it will not cure Fibro, Lyme or CFS.......There are way too many Chiro's and other alternative doctors "milking" the chronically ill patients.....And this includes medial doctors too.......

I am more middle of the road.....Take a little bit of everyones philosophy, alternative and mainstream and put together your own program........

Anytime you have somebody promising a CURE or they have an unrealistic self confidence in their treatment.......They are usually into it for the money......Only a closed minded individual fails to question their methods.......I try to look for humble doctors who are willing to listen to other ideas......

Kingneptune,

It's VERY refreshing to hear a chiro with your feedback. I've run across many who claim they can cure anything. it turned me off to the profession a lot. A few bad apples...

Doctors and chiros cannot cure anyone of anything, the "cure" comes from within the patient. The best docs are the ones that understand this, and instead of making promises they cannot keep, endeavor to help the patient develop insight into how to reduce the load factors contributing to their illness, and enhance their body's natural self correcting tendencies.

That said, properly applied musculoskeletal adjustment can enhance circulation and in so doing improve nutrient delivery and toxin removal...
