I've been sick with what was thought to be chronic fatigue for two years now. However, I have lately realized that I may have lyme.

I saw a LLMD three weeks ago, got a number of tests run, and a perscription for doxy. Based on my symptoms, he says there is a good chance I may have lyme.

I haven't gotten my results back yet, but have been experiencing a pretty bad herx from the doxy. The question I have is related to my dose.

I have had bad reactions to a number of immune boosting supps in the past and was afraid of starting too fast on the doxy. My doc told me to start with 100mg a day, and work my way up over the course of a few weeks to 100 2x a day. Once my results are in he will probably suggest further treatment with a higher dose, or a combo of antibiotics.

I am aware that 100mg a day is a very small dose, however I started herxing the first day, and have gotten progressively worse since then.

I would like to know if anyone else has experienced a herx with such a low dose? If so does anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, if your bacterial load is high (2 yrs worth) then you can herx on low dosages.

You want to get up to 400mg a day if possible. But go by the herxing and your doctor.

Most everyone here herxes. The more you can tough it out, the quicker you'll get well!

[hi] WELCOME! [hi]

A herx is another strong indication of Lyme.

I started at 200mg a day (100mg twice daily).

Boy was I sick!

Hang in there.

Hugs,

I agree to LymeToo -

Build up to higher dose as soon as you can-

Low dose can make germs become resistant to meds-

tkearn,

Herxing can be really harsh for some even on low doses of abx as it depends on the load of the bacteria. That is why some doctors start very slowly so that the patient is not too uncomfortable.

You probably already know from reading the instructions on the package not to lay down within a half hour of taking doxy, not taking it with dairy, staying OUT of the sun, and taking with food if it bothers your stomach.

I'm sure your LLMD may have discussed taking good refrigerated high culture/high strain probiotics to replace all the bacteria doxy is killing off.

If not, I would get a really good brand such as Renew Life CRITICAL CARE at your local healthfood store in the fridge section.

Your supplments which should/may include Fish Oil, B Complex, Immune Booster, and a good quaity vitamin, and an herbal antifungal to kill yeast.

Hope you can continue ramping up your doxy safely and without much pain.

Good luck with your treatment and keep us posted.

Betty's POSTING GUIDELINES

When you post or reply, please break up your solid, continuous block text [Smile] welcome to the board! many of us have neuro lyme where we can NOT read long solid block text and be able to comprehend and read it as is.

please edit your post by CLICKING PAPER/PENCIL ICON to right of your name. that opens up BOTH subject line and body text.

now please break up your WORDY SENTENCES into one sentence paragraphs. Then hit ENTER KEY ``THREE`` after each paragraph; we need that space for comprehension.

if you are NOT a wordy person, you can do 2 or 3 total ok. do this for your entire post.

NOTE: you do NOT have to use "", just show the name of person you are responding to, and then type your comment.

IF you need to use "", PLEASE DELETE "BOLD" CODES so it's regular type text we read vs. the DARK, HARSH/PAINFUL BOLDING.

specifically, delete the first 4 characters of 2ND LINE of a ""

[QB] just delete these 4 characters, and BOLDING is GONE! my eyes will really appreciate that; it's one very bad side effect of my having lyme for 38.5 years!! xox

then go to left hand corner and mark box to receive ALL REPLIES, and click EDIT SEND

we thank you for helping us; [Wink] otherwise, we will SOB, SCROLL ON BY, since we can't read to help you. If I see posts like this, I SOB them; to hard on me.

Thanks for the responses.

In response to your questions, I am on a high quality probiotic, which I take 3x a day. On top of that I take fish oil, multi, b complex, and milk thistle.

My herx symptoms, are mostly a worsening of my normal symptoms. Brain fog, anxiety, and fatigue are the worst of these. My stamina is also significantly less than usual.

I've been told my case is unusual because I don't have any pain. My main symptoms are the afformentioned brain fog, anxiety, fatigue, and low stamina. I also have sensitivities to many foods, and odors.

This is the main reason it took me so long to come to a lyme dx. My Igenex results, as well as tests for co-infections should be in soon. Hopefully I will have more of an idea what I'm dealing with then.

Thanks again.
