I've read the chapter in Bryan Rosner's book pertaining to the Marshall Protocol and have read many testimonials on this site regarding MP.

I've decided not to go forward with the Marshall Protocol for my daughter and I but I'm interested in what Benicar can do for us.

Is it safe to use Benicar without being on the complete MP? In Bryan's first book about Lyme and Rife he mentions Benicar but not in the context of the MP.

Has anyone used Benicar alone and what was your experience, good or bad?

Has anyone had headache / head pressure relief from Benicar alone?

Thanks very much, Paul.

You might want to try a herbal vasodilator first. I just posted on this a couple of days ago.

While the Benicar has helped hubby the side effects of low blood pressure are almost as worrisome as the headaches and tremors and myoclonus etc.

Dr. H. in NY put me on Benicar but never the Marshall Protocol; I was instead on daily Doxy & occasional Tindamax. I was also on the lowest dose of Benicar. But I somehow had the feeling that it worked for Lyme in conjunction with an antibiotic?

My daughter gest that head pressure & headaches and only long-term treatment with Minocin has helped her.

LymeMD blog talks about benecar- do a search at his blog as he mentions it in several places and sounds very reserved about only using it in some cases. He doesn't use the Marshall Protocol. I think ti's in the May or June archive:

Does magnesium and B-6 relieve your headache at all? It helps me a lot. You can take magnesium to bowel tolerance. B-6 is calming and helps it get into the cells to work. Lots of water, too.

I tried a very low dose Benicar two separate times. Severe vertigo both times with deep weakness. Unable to function.

The second time I also had some sort of apparent kidney attack that seemed to be like a kidney stone symptoms of extreme back pain that wrapped around. It was the worst pain I've every had. No stone ever showed so it's hard to know what was happening.

I recall that I had been too dizzy to get up and drink all the water that I usually do, so maybe less water combined with a med that affects kidneys was just too much.

I don't think this is the drug for me - but I really can't take ANY drugs due to sensitivities. I have heard of some people doing very well with this, though.

The doc I use in MD, Dr M, uses Benicar in combo with Minocycline typically. He had to use Cefzil, Tindamax, and Benicar in my case since I had a possible drug reaction to the Mino.

He started me at 10mg/day, ramped up to 40mg/day, where I stayed for awhile, then up to 80mg/day. I did experience some wooziness upon standing up abruptly, but after 3-4 months, my body adjusted and I was okay after that. I was on Benicar for about 8 months.

He also uses Vit-D 25-Hydroxyl levels as an indicator of tissue inflammation; he believes that the spirochetes cause inflammation in the tissues, which seems to affect the -25 Hydroxyl levels. Low levels suggest that there is still something causing inflammation, probably the Lyme's.

I came in with very low -25 hydroxyl levels (19), and after 4000IU Vit-D3 supplementation for awhile, seem to have leveled off in the high-50s as I recall. At no time did my regular 1.25 levels leave the middle of the normal range.
