I am posting this on behalf of a friend of mine. -------------------------------------------------
Christmas is just around the corner and I am hoping to spread the Christmas cheer! It seems as though every Christmas there is at least one charity that rings to me, to give- sometimes literally ringing to me (Salvation Army Bell Ringers).
Often these charities are far away and across the ocean and we often forget that there are needs to be met within our own back yard. This year the economy is not doing well, and for some families, Christmas has been rough without the help of the government.
There is a group of kids that seem to feel forgotten a lot of the time staying home for months at a time in what we consider ``social isolation''.
Though we have been bedridden and hospitalized we have come to a time when we don't feel comfortable with the community we live in, or sometimes asking our parents for a few extra dollars- let alone a nice Christmas.
This is when the idea was born to make wish lists. We have all had Lyme for around three years, and now we're growing into young adults. Many of our main wishes are to be home and feeling well for the holidays, but we have come up with a few items around $20 and under to ask for.
This is just a way to connect with the community. A way to remember that not everyone is ready to point a finger or judge us for not looking ill, but desperately feeling trapped inside.
What can you do? Well, if you would like to get a few friends together and all pitch in like about five dollars you can easily buy a gift and send it in the mail to one of these kids, you can find someone who has similar interests through their little bio and the gifts they have chosen.
Or you can choose to just pick a gift and send it on its way. We ask that you enclose a return address and a card in your package to this teen or young adult so they can thank you. Below are the steps you can follow.
- There you will see a green Lyme awareness ribbon and if you scroll down you will see wish lists, each wish list has a name below it. You can click on each of them and see their names, and stories of how long they have had Lyme. If you find a person you would like to ``sponsor'' please e-mail Victoria Wilcox at
- After she receives your e-mail she will tell you that you can purchase the gift and remove the gift from that person's wish list to avoid double purchasing. Please wait until you have received an e-mail in response to your e-mail before you buy the item incase two people have shown interest in the same item. In the response e-mail you will also receive the address of the teen you're buying for.
We will have all Lyme Teens and Young Adults posted by December 1st, giving you time to buy the item and get it shipped to their home.
If you are a teen in the age group and would like to create a wish list please email
Thanks and have a great holiday!!

This is the coolest thing ever; I am most definitely going to send some gifts and have several teens to post as well; am going to pass the word to some lymie teen kids I know, and post a few I work with.
Wow, love it!!! Thanks Vic for yet another cool idea, and Melissa for making it happen!
