I've been on doxy (400 mg a day) and amoxicillin (3,000 mg a day) for 3 months now. The first couple of months I just stayed the same. This last month I've been feeling worse. I don't think it's a herx.
My lightheadedness has gotten a lot worse. Earlier on in my treatment (I've been in tx for nearly 17 months) I could barely go to the store because of feeling lightheaded. The past week it's been like that again for me.
I think I need to address co-infections. I'm pretty sure I don't have bart. I was on cipro for a while and had no herx from it. Though I could be wrong.. you never know with TBI's!
My gut is telling me I may have babs. I treated it for a couple months last year, but got off of it because I felt so bad. At the time I thought this was a bad thing... now I'm thinking I might of been herxing. I had a lot of heart symptoms (palps, uneasy feeling lin chest). Is that a herx?
When I first was tested for Lyme my doctor told me by Red blood cell count was low. I read that babs destroys your RBC's. I know there could be other reasons for that, but I've always thought that maybe it was babesia.
My doctor doesn't think I show any babesia symptoms. I don't have sweats, nausea, or any of the other big symptoms. Though the last month I have been getting hot flashes.
Should I ask my doctor to start some new meds. Or am I not giving the current meds long enough? I just feel like I was plateauing with the current treatment (not getting better, not getting worse) and now I'm getting worse. I'm scared about that!
I need some advice.
Thank you!

I have babesia, and I didn't really have any of the symptoms of it besides horrible fatigue. But even my fatigue might be from my Bart or lyme.
Anyways, when I take artemisinin I get night sweats. When I first started Mepron I got them too. They were definitely babesia sweats.
I would have never suspected I had it until I started getting the positive bloodwork for it. No chest/heart symptoms, no air hunger, and no sweats that I could recall before I started treating it.
I still haven't figure out the best way to treat it, but I thought maybe my experience could help you. If your intuition tells you you may have it, you should definitely investigate further.
Doxy never helped me much. I would say based on what you have said you need a change of approach.
I just got done with Mepron and Zithromax, and now that I have started Minocycline, I was surprised how much the Minocyline helped me.
Then I added Rifampin to it, and I have been herxing, so I am a lot more tired, but I think once this dies down I will be able to say that the Rifampin was a good drug for me too.
I firmly believe that you just have to keep trying until you find something that works, so don't give up!!!!
Also, don't rule out Bart or "BLO", even if you test negative and don't have the symptoms. If this illness has taught me anything, it is that you shouldn't rule anything out, and you should keep trying different drugs because one of them is bound to work....sometimes it is the ones you least expect will help you, and sometimes the ones you expect to help you, don't help.

Hey Lauren... Its a shame you are not making the gains you were expecting. It is hard to know what co-infections are present. I definitely have Bart and I did not herx that clearly on Cipro either.
In fact It took me to look back over my symptom log after relapsing on doxy to realise that my head cleared and fog lifted as soon as I finished my second month of Cipro.
So I relapsed because I stopped treating the Bart prematurely. Dr B mentions that you can have a delayed effect like that in patients.
As soon as I started on levaquin in July I herxed like mad and my brain cleared right up.
I would look at aggressive combo therapy with an experienced LLMD. It does not look like amox and doxy is a good mix. One can inhibit the other from what I have read.
Best of luck. You will get there.

I was on antibiotics for 4 month and did not improve until I treated for Babesia. 2 weeks on Malarone and I started seeing improvement.
