I have been unable to convince my PCP to authorize treatment through insurance.

I had a postive multiplex PCR test using urine through Igenex.

My PCP says that is not an accurate test.

My LLMD wants to start treatment. I will need to pay for it out of pocket.

Does anyone know what the cost of a pic line and IV Rocephin cost?

My LLMD indicated that I will probably need to treat for 3-6 months.

Thanks for your help.

I haven't done it personally, but from what people have stated on here, I think you're looking at $15,000-$20,000 out-of-pocket just for IV meds and supplies. [Frown]

There is information on lymenet about appealing insurance company decisions. Having a positive test should help.

Not sure where the info is, but do a search in the Medical and Support threads. Many llmds have ways of cutting costs also. Hope that helps and you get the treatment you need.

that happened to me

i had really good ins too-but couldn't get them to approve it

i did orals and got a lot better

iv is not all that important-bicillan gets better results in general-and there are extra risks with iv

also-most llmds know how to order cheaper abx and then there are the alt protocols: buhner, zhang

i hope you start with something if you decide to fight them -that is hard and stressful good-luck

If your anywhere near Providence, R.I., there's a Vascular Institue. I know they take insurances but I'm not sure which ones.

I thought the cost was under or about $2000.00. I don't know about them supplying the rocephin but there is a number you can call and they'll be more than happy answer any questions for you.

I was very pleased with the service and how caring the professional is. Prices might have gone up since I've been.

You might also consider either of these. As I never had access to a LLMD and cannot tolerate abx, I have been very impressed with my experiences with time I've been on both of these (at separate times).

It's best to read the entire book(s) before deciding so that everything would be in place. Many LLMDs also incorporate elements from both:
