1. About antibiotics, what is LONG enough, what kind and what dosage for a 7-yr-old boy that weighs 55lbs?
2. Do I take the 2 to 3 wks of antibiotics that I might be able to FORCE out of my son's Infections Disease MD until I can get in to see a LLMD? OR will that just help the bacteria become resistant?
3.1. My 7-year-old son just tested positive. They're saying false positive, so I'm looking for a LLMD that sees kids FAST!! Any leads other than Dr. C in MO & Dr. J in CT?
Dr. F in LA doesn't see kids my son's age. Dr. W in TX doesn't see kids, either.
Any info will HELP. Thank you so very much!!!

I would do the antibiotics that you doctor gives you to get him started until you can get to a LLMD.

Does he have a rash? Take him to an urgent care doc and hope they will Rx more, till you get to the LLMD? Just an idea.
Better yet - Is his pedi receptive?
When my son was bitten, ours wanted to give 2 weeks, and I asked, "well, does that make sense since borrelia replicate so slowly and have a 28 day life cycle? Will that get them all?" (knowing full well that abx primarily kill the keets best at particular stages, but phrasing it in a way that would help her make the choice rather than insisting)...
Our pedi looked at me and said, "you seem to know more about the spirochete life cycle. If you think 30 days will be better - fine."
Would your pedi be that open? If so, you could try that.
I'm so sorry your little guy's going though this!
Definitely take what they Rx, and if it's not enough to get through till the LLMD appt, it will be better than none.

I agree with Cactus,,you HAVE to lead the non believing docs to the conclusion YOU want!!! BUT phrase it as a suggestion of THEIR smart, schooling, ego related bodies can use to their advantage.
And hope for a bit earlier spot opening. OR extend the rx as we have discused before,,carefully.

Hey,
Amoxicilin is a good antibiotic if there are no coinfections. If there are, you need to determine what they are to choose which medicine. Doxy is good for Lyme and bacterial coinfections but not prescribed before age 8, so age further complicates things. Nonbacterial coinfections require something all together different.
Doses are higher for TBD's then average use purposes, but do not know what they would be.
I third agree to starting an antibiotic now.
Doc J will sometimes take a conference call which you schedule over the phone. It's worth a call to ask. He can also order additional testing for you in the interim before a scheduled appointment. He usually treats until three months symptom free. If no symptoms, he may not treat. It depends on test results and known tick exposure, endemic location....etc
Dr.C in Mendenhall, Pa sees children and adults. There may be a hefty wait or the possibility of her not taking new patients.
Hang in there,

2Roads, are you suggesting Dr. J. would treat over the phone without seeing this child? That is the reason he is being investigated. This mom should find an LLMD nearby and start with him or her, or at least find an LLMD who can advise her child's primary care doctor, while she waits to get in somewhere.

Why are they saying it is a false positive? Did he test positive for EBV, syphilis, RA, or any other disease that is known to cross-react with the test?? If the answer is NO, then no doctor is justified in dismissing positive test results.
