My mom began taking antibiotics and within a few days the swelling in her hands went down - they looked normal. A week later they began to swell again. Is this normal? There is still the uncertainty that she may have RA but none of those meds. work for her. They make her sicker.
Thank you!

Sometimes getting sicker after taking antibiotics can sometimes be a 'herxeimer reaction."Which means you get worse before getting better.

You can google this or do a search at the top of this site.Lots of good information to read about it.

I would recommend she check in with her doctor and he can advise her what to do. If it is a herx, it will pass after a time.

This definitely can be a die off reaction but don't tough it out. Inflammation is damaging to the body and not just the joints. Inflammation is behind heart disease, brain disorders, CNS disorders, gut problems, etc.

Your mom needs some serious detox effort. If she has a good level of glutathione naturally, she should clear the toxins just fine and RA will not occur. But if she is low in glutathione which just about all chronically ill people are, she will need extra.

For a long time I received IVs of glutathione and they were extremely helpful. Now, I use glutathione suppositories and my doctor says they are just as good as the IVs. I am doing great, so I plan to take these the rest of my life. (A gene test specific for my ability to detox show I have very poor ability to make my own glutathione)

I also take 1500mg of Vit C daily and 5000 IU Vit D3. Both of these reduce inflammation. The Vit C is a detoxifier. The 5000 IU Vit D3 is recommended for people with RA which I have.

I eat a diet of mostly vegetables, some fruit and some meat. Red meat is known to aggravate inflammation and should be avoided. No sugar (although I cheated big time during T'giving)

Cutting out diary can also help. It did help me a lot. Don't eat any foods with additives or preservatives. Stay away from high fructose corn syrup and vegetable oils. They all cause inflammation in the body.

If your mom detoxifys properly and aggressively, she will stay out of pain while killing the bacterias.

She might want to check out www.roadback.org. They don't talk much about detox, but they are completely dedicated to infectious causes to RA. By following their antibiotic protocol, your mom may avoid this horrible disease.

Luvs,

Can anyone take glutathione or is it better to have our LLMD recommend it?

Thank you,
Jenny

jenny,

I'm not sure I really know the answer to that one. No one tested my glutathione levels prior to giving me the IVs that I can remember and I have never heard you can have too much glut.

I don't think it would hurt to try, but I always run things by my doctor first.

jp--yep, it's called a herxheimer reaction, and it means treatment's killing bacteria. Does your mother have an LLMD (doc who takes a more aggressive approach than is prescribed by the flawed IDSA guidelines)?

If not, you need to educate her and get her to one, as 99% of the physicians out there don't have a clue about this disease.
