We don't hear too much about this. Schardt (?) postulated that Diflucan was a cyst buster treating Lyme (as well as yeast). I want to try it. Has anyone tried it?

Yes, did it for 50 days and cleared up remaining neuro symptoms for me. Just felt better and better on it.

Is it possible to build up an immunity to Diflucan from taking it so much? I feel great on it as well, but my llmd cautioned me about over-use.

I don't know about resistance but Diflucan is hard on the liver. I personally believe it is killing the yeast in us. Yeast symptoms can be the same as lyme and often I think some of our symptoms we blame on lyme are really yeast.

Back in my first few months of my Lyme diagnosis, I was reading anything I could get my hands on.

I did bookmark his web page where he talks about his Diflucan protocol. I think it was around the 50 days of Diflucan, then a week or two of an abx and back to Diflucan. (this was years ago, so the memory back then is foggy, but I can search it again if need be.

I guess what I'm saying is that it caught my interest enough that when I finish my abx protocol to my LLMD's liking or I just can't take these meds anymore, I do hope to end with that.

Would love to hear from others that followed it and how it went.

Cathy

My LLMD is really excited about this possibility of Diflucan working as a cyst buster. He had me on 100 mg along with my antibiotics, but he was very clear that he intended to use it less for yeast and more for the Lyme. I herxed really badly with the med combo he had me on (Biaxin/Alinia/Diflucan) and can't be sure it was the Diflucan, but as soon as he asked me to stop it, I felt so much better. Seemeed like it was causing a majority of the herx feelings. I'm really hoping to go back to it when I can tolerate it better.

I was on diflucan for about 8 months as a lyme treatment, not just for yeast. This was after about 3 years of oral antibiotics.

My LLMD stongly felt we were hitting the Lyme, not just yeast based on the severe lengthy herxes I had - she said that a yeast die off reaction would be much briefer and pass - not last for months - it took me forever to work up to a full dose

Anyway, the 8 months I was on (once the herxing stopped) it I was the most functional I had been with this disease and would say I was about 90% -95% in remission

However, I do believe in hindsight I developed diflucan resistant yeast and did build up a tolerance - it stopped being nearly as effective after about 8 months

anyway, after I stopped the diflucan my LLMD and I decided to see how I would do without any formal treatment since I felt so well. My Lyme relapsed horribly and I wound up having to go back on antibiotics again anyway

thanks Luvs - relapsing so badly was horrible after feeling so much better, but after about a year now I'm thinking I am doing pretty well again (all things considered)
