I have been on doxycycline for about 2 wks now. Before diagnosis, I had bad ankle pain in my left ankle that I thought was plantar fascitis but now think it is due to lyme. Now that I started treatment, I have pain in the other ankle and some intermittent pain in my hip and knee area. Is this herxing?

Pain is usually part of herxing, but also of the illness and many other things. Be sure to drink lots of water.
When I was a kid (in the sixties) there was a song with lyrics: " . . . The hip bone is connected to the knee bone. The knee bone is connected to the foot bone . . ."
Part of it is that sort of thing. If one thing pulls on one joint, the rest will feel it sooner or later. Tendons can get really tight in one ankle and the entire skeletal system can do odd twists on you.
With lyme, pain migrates day to day sometimes. Even with plantar fasc. that can vary and still needs attention in the form of custom orthodics and PT from a foot specialist.
No not underestimate plantar fasciitis. It can be grueling. Be sure you have the best foot support at all times.
Special stretching exercises will help your feet and all things connected to them. Do NOT over-stretch, though. Be gentle.
Cranial-sacral therapy (GENTLE, not "snap and crack") such as with a doctor trained in Upledger approach (Google it to find a doctor) or the Feldenkrais method will be very helpful.

Can you get some professional massages or take a gentle, more meditative slower kind of yoga class? (No "power" yoga, that is.)
That would be very helpful.
Magnesium and B-6 can help, too. A warm bath in epson salts -- ahhhhh.
And taking glutathione, or glutathione precursors such as NAC and all that other stuff, will also help decrease toxins that also can be a cause of the pain.

i had what was determined to be plantar fascitis by well known dr. had it for 4 months, got real dizzy one day, went home sick as a dog, went to sleep. when i woke my knee hurt like hell, no more plantar. knee hurt like hell, could hardly walk for a month, went to dr. said i should drain knee, problem was fluid buildup. ok, he's a specialist he knows. worst mistake of my life, the pain has moved on but my knee is screwed. another dr. said he should have never drained that knee and it will hurt the rest of my life now. so just watch what you do and what the dr's tell you to do.

Maybe it's age, I don't know, but my ankle pain is due to cartilage loss, which I never had before Lyme.
I can't say it is due to Lyme, but I have osteoporosis/osteoarthritis, and wherever it came from Lyme or ??, I still have it.
I am told there is really no help for ankles, but I kept trying. Groovy recommended glusomanine sulfate, which helped tremendously for one year, but now, it seems to be getting worse as time goes.
I went to an orthopedic who took x-rays and he stated there was absolutely nothing I could do but wait for it to get worse. Not an option for me.
I recently went to a Podiatrist, who recommended custom orthotics, which I should get in about two weeks. He stated that would help a great deal, so I can hardly wait to try that out.
Also, I've been reading about Rocker Soles and I might try those out, also, if the orthotics don't give me relief.
Getting a Dexa scan will tell you if you have osteoporosis. Lyme does have a lot to do with joint pain, which I, unfortunately, have had since being diagnosed with Lyme in 2002.
I hope you get relief.
My best,
lifeline
