Good Morning. Yesterday was my 1st day on abx and my 2 week mark on Samento and other supplements.
Last night, I experienced what I think was an ophthalmic migraine: I couldn't sleep because all I could see (even with eyes shut) were colorful lights moving slowly in my field of vision (think aurora borealis-type display).
I did have odd sensations in my head, like I felt my brain was touching my skull, and weird things like that. But I didn't have classic migraine pain.
Usually, ophthalmic migraines last less than an hour, but this lasted for several hours.
I've had this happen before, but not since August when I was on oral steroids (before I thought I had Lyme).
I'm hoping it is a sign that the abx are working? Are these types of auras and such typical? (I've had lots of neuro symptoms, in fact all of my symptoms were neurological for about a year before I developed arthritis and other problems.)
Thanks!

I get the optical auras all of the time without the migraine. I get migraines too, but I do not have the auras with them.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't think I was the only one who'd been there, done that. I know I'm not that special.
I wasn't very clear, but my specific concern was the duration. This lasted for hours in me, but when I looked up ocular migraines, I read they are usually much shorter.
I've had ongoing problems with my eyes since last spring, including flashing lights and pain upon eye movement and mild double vision. But only rarely have I had auras, and these were the most intense and longest lasting.
Thanks

mine last about 20 minutes. sometimes I'll get another set about 15 minutes later. I have never had any that lasted any longer than 20 minutes.

I've had auras for about 10 mins, foggy vision for a couple hours, and blind spots that lasted weeks. One blind spot survives as an unusual area of brightness in my visual field, now over 5 years later.

Ive had those, and still get those every few days, weeks. Not real set pattern. Before lyme, I had only the A-typical migraine that would last a few hrs and be gone, not returning for months. Once I had the lyme encephalitis/meningitis.. I now get every type of migraine and headaches.. with auras, without auras, eye, head, carotyid, ...they're all signs of inflammation, vascular changes and brain healing. When I first mentioned these to one of the neuros I saw, he said that the eye auras cant hurt you, theres nothing wrong, its just the eye pressure and inflammation.
Once you can get used to what they are, your choices are to either stay awake and watch tv or do something till they go away, or, just ignore them and try to sleep. I know its not easy...but try to think of them as 4th of july fireworks without any noise, and maybe you can drift off to sleep.

I have/had the optical auras as well. Used to get them really badly when I'd shut my eyes upon going to bed. Lights and colors all over the place, twisting and turning and dancing all over. But I don't remember a headache with them either.
I still get them but very seldom, probably thanks to treatment.
