I don't think this has to do with lyme but who knows. My daughter used sponge curlers for a big show that she's in. When she woke up this am, her hair started falling out in huge chunks.

This has been happening all day long. I've been looking at the hair and it has breakage at the scalp which makes me think it's from the rollers.

My questions is how could her hair be so brittle and what can I do about this. I'm so upset I'm almost in tears over this.

My daughter lost about 1/3 of her hair from lyme. As she got better it has stopped falling out and is growing back.

It was scary to see HUGE globs of hair in the shower and in her brush.

My daughter has begun to have large amounts of hair loss too, if I brush her hair, sooo much comes out, I am afraid to touch it now. I've been "brushing" her hair very gently and really mostly using my fingers on any knots...I'm so paranoid! Thankfully she has very thick hair to begin wuth, but like you, I am upset over this and so is she [Frown]

So glad to hear this gets better as they recover, Sojourner!

I read online that using tight hair pieces can make this situation worse.

But she may be having a intrinsic B12 problem get her a good sublingual and a few b12 shots.
Also she needs to take a good muti vitamin and magnesium calcium and cq10 and acidophilis.

I lost a large amount of hair. Some was from falling out, what was left broke off.

Lyme treatment helped and finally, my hair is back to normal.

I used a good, expensive shampoo (Pureology) because it doesn't make your hair attract dirt like less expensive shampoos, so I only washed my hair twice per week. I also wore it in a more natural style, which for me is curly, rather than flat ironing it and damaging it more.

You just have to pamper it while it's fragile.

Be sure she's getting necessary nutrients. My hair was breaking and falling out when I was having malabsorption, but abx can make some people's hair brittle.

My teenage daughter lost a lot of hair - in clumps, before she was diagnosed with Lyme. Her doctors told us she was mal-nurished. After she started antibiotics the hair came back slowly.

Whenever I take DHEA (5mg) my hair thins out. Since I have ridiculously thick hair, I like the thinned out version, but if it gets too thin, I back off the DHEA for awhile. The hair grows right back.

Hair loss can be a sign of thyroid disorder or lupus. Brittle hair would be too little fat in the diet. I'm sure there are many other causes too, even medicines.

Coconut Oil is good for so many things. It is even anti-viral, anti-bacterial. It helps to control weight, is very good for skin and hair.

I need to take Biotin 5,000 mcg a day that helps.
But please ask a doctor if this would be ok for your daughter.

For me, there was no doubt that Armor thyroid meds made me loose almost half of my hair. When I stopped -it stopped coming out in handfuls in the shower.
It was horrible, still working on it coming back. I have had to wear it up now since July. I miss my hair.

Hang in there!

Her hair was cut super short today. Lyme could deifnitely be an issue. She has also had a hard time with middle school. Mean kids, picked on a lot, teachers are also very rough. I believe the stress of school, her eating habits, and huge amounts of stress have created this.

Don't know how to stop all the stress. I've tried changing schools and can not even get that approved.

This is so depressing. My poor daughter has been through so much.
