We just received the test results for my 10 year old. I had every band, as per CDC criteria. I am confused by his results.

If this was Igenex lab the IGG is negative with one positive band #41.

The IGM has bands #31, #39 and #41 as IND.

The results are technically negative, but IND's are considered a week positive.

Bands #31 and #39 are specific for lyme.

I have attached Dr. C's explanation for your information to help exlain a little better.

It seems your son has lyme. Is he symtomatic? Are you seeing an LLMD? It is important that you see a lyme literate doctor as they are experienced in lyme treatment and also testing for coinfectons, which are bugs that travel with the lyme bacteria.

If you havent seen an LLMD, please do so immediately so that you can start treatment as the longer you wait the harder it is to eradicate, and the longer the patient will have to be on antibiotics.

IND is a weak positive. So he likely has it. Band 39 is extremely important, as you'll see when you read Dr C's WB explanation.

My son has symptoms that could be LD related. His Cholesterol is around 320, insomnia, anxiety, depression, dark circles under his eyes, unexplained GI problems, ear problems, and allergies.

My daughter (8) is symptomatic: chronic reflux, knee pains, soreness in her neck, large number of ear infections (until four year old). She is going to be tested this week.

Lyme is a clinical diagnosis (not based solely on lab test results). Are you seeing an LLMD? How about your children?

Some LLMD's do an empirical trial of abx and this gives one more information. Also, sometimes a short course of abx will convert a previously negative test to a positive result.

A differential diagnosis is very important. Viruses, chemical exposures or some other toxic exposure, mold, bacterial infections such as bartonella (could be passed by pets such as cats or dogs) etc.

You need a doctor who can evaluate your family adequately. Many ILADS LLMD's are good at that. Some aren't. Be sure to get referrals from patients from here. Go to the seeking doctor section of this website and put your State in the subject line and ask for referrals.

Don't rule lyme out yet, there are many reasons for false negatives.
