I have my next scheduled appointment with my LLMD on the 22nd of December.

I have been on high dosage of amoxy, 400 mg of doxy for 4 months and 2 months of Biaxin and Flagly. I believe I am still herxing although they have less intensity

My health is at 75 % with my main symptoms being headache, head pressure right side, stiff neck, right side stomach pain and general fatigue.

I always go to my appointment with a list of questions and some suggestions.

Here are some my options

1) Switch to another abx, just in case the biaxin and Flagly lost it's effectiveness
2) Stay on Biaxin and Flagly for another couple of months.
3) Go off abx and see how my body could react.
My symptoms could be related to other issues
My stiff neck/headache could be related to a spasm in my neck and DDD of the neck. The stomach pain could be from IBS and the fatigue could be from taking abx
4) Go on IV Picc so I can penetrate the abx quicker and work on these head pressure issues

By the way, I did have an abnormal brain spect (mild to moderate hypofusion) and my cd 57 is 110

Any comments are appreciated

Tony

Good morning Tony...

My thought.. quick overview only...

Check for Babesiosis.

Also.. if still herxing.. stay the course. That is my theory.

I can not determine if other problems are involved.. but if you think they may be.. check it out now rather than wait. You don't want to turn off the water AFTER the floor gets flooded.

I am not a doctor... and this is only my opinion.

Hope you feel the other 25 percent better soon!

I agree on the babesia. It could have been hiding out while you treated the Lyme. Ask your dr for a trial run of meds if you previously came back negative on babs.

I would advise against stopping meds at this point. You haven't been in treatment that long and you have symptoms.

Personally, I would want to be symptom-free for at least 2 months before getting off abx.

What is an effective abx treatment for babs.

I am taking biaxin which I think is a babs treatment?

I did not worry about babs as I thought you have to have night sweats all the time. I did have them once last year for a one week period.

My other symptoms are headaches, stiff neck and stomach pain and fatigue.

Is it babs?

COULD be. You don't have to have night sweats in order to have babesia. I'll find the list of symptoms for you.

Biaxin alone is NOT babs treatment. Mixed with mepron, it IS.

The following signs/symptoms may be present in those infected with Babesiosis:

Fatigue
Arthralgias
Myalgia
Drenching sweats
Headaches
Emotional lability
Depression
Dark urine
Splenomegaly
Dizziness
Nausea and vomiting
Cough
Dyspnea
Fever
Chills
Hepatosplenomegaly
Jaundice
Malaise
Shortness of breath
Bleeding tendencies, bruising
Thrombocytopenia
Hemoglobinuria
Hyperesthesia
Pulmonary edema
Encephalopathy

Low to normal range leukocyte counts
Possible elevated levels of dehydrogenase, bilirubin,
transaminase*
Anorexia

Approximately 25%- 66% of Babesia patients are known to be co-infected with Lyme disease. These symptoms may continue for long periods of time, decrease, then return. A low Babesiosis titer (IgG) often indicates a chronic infection.

An acute or current infection may show a higher reading on the IgM test initially. There are over 100 species of Babesia in the United States but only ONE or TWO species are currently checked by commercial labs.

Babesia for me meant extreme fatigue, back/spine pain, dizziness or being off balance a lot, headaches and heart palps. I had occasional chills.

That Babesia symptom list is so long. Diagnosing based on symptoms is impossible. We could all asign outself 100 disease states easily. I think we need to be careful doing that. I see it too much on Lymenet. That said, I have many of those symptoms: extreme fatigue, had chills, balance problems, breathing issues, high bilirubin levels, etc. [Smile]

So many Babesia and Bartonella symptoms overlap.

So unless your symptoms are clearly Babs (like night sweats or air hunger) how do you know if you have Babesia or Bart, or both?

I'm asking about a clinical diagnosis, since most of us have tested postive for only one or no co-infections.

Tony, How about asking your LLMD about replacing some of your orals (probably the doxy and amoxy) with Bicillin LA. Bicillin is a penicillin formula you inject a few times a week. Injected abx is supposed to be stronger and more effective than orals, but less intense than IV.

Good luck with the appointment!

Erica
