Tuesday my son had an appointment with Dr. C! It was a GREAT experience. I feel so at ease now. He started him on Ceftin. I'm very happy with how the appointment went... all my questions and more were answered. The dr. seems very confident that he will get all the way better. I'm so happy we are treating him.
I have a question about filing with my insurance (BCBS). I'm not sure if I should try to get reimbursed or not. I remember reading about not using insurance for children so they won't have trouble getting health insurance in the future. Would that put a bad mark on his record?
Even if I do file, how likely is it that they will actually reimburse me the money? His test was not positive.. just had some positive bands (2 of which are Lyme specific, but I'm sure the insurance co. will be clueless abou that!) Will they reimburse if the test is negative?
Also if I decide not to use the insurance for the doctor visit... is it okay to use it for the medicine? Will the insurance company have any way of knowing why he is being prescribed antibiotics?
Just was curious about this... trying to decide if I should try to get reimbursed or not.

I don't know what to tell you about his insurance and whether or not it's wise to claim.
I will tell you that my ins reimburses me a portion of the office visit. It's worth it to me, but I'm not having to worry about future health ins issues.
My ins paid for 4 yrs worth of abx.

I have decided not to file the office visits with my insurance, but I have NEVER had a problem filling any rx's from him. I have only been at this since 5/08.
The first visit is the most expensive and the following ones are like 1/2 as much and only every 4 months.
I guess I haven't filed the visits out of paranoia. Once I started having health problems and have tons of tests run, our insurance started having two "open enrollment periods" a year so they could decrease our benefits and increase our monthly premiums and deductibles.
But, I can totally see why someone would want to file the visits on insurance!!

I file my LLMD visits with my insurance, but I'm set for life with my insurance from my teaching career.
I have not encouraged one of my sons to see my LLMD because he is uninsured at the moment and I don't want any more pre-existing conditions on his insurance.
He's an adult, though, and already has a big mental health dx to deal with. He has been lucky enough to get county coverage for it, at least so far.
I am praying budget cuts don't cut his programs!
