I have been on Bicillin for a about 6 months. Seems to be working well for me. I get 2 shots of the 1.2M unit dose at each visit to my Dr. My only objection is that the shots still hurt alot and leave my bottom sore on both sides for a day or two. The nurse said I could change to getting a single shot using the 2.4M unit dose each time. She says it's a pretty big shot, but some people don't mind it, and it would eliminate one shot at each visit. Has anyone tried the the 2.4M shot? Does it hurt much more than the 1.2M dose?

Thanks

I do not know about the 2.4M shot, but you can make the shots less painful.

Do you use lidocaine cream and ice on the injection area before the shots? These took care of virtually all of the pain of the injection for me and others. Hope you can get your doctor to prescribe the lidocaine; leave it on the site for an hour beforehand, and then ice the area for 15 minute before the injection.

yes the 2.4 hurts more. It is because they send an 18 gauge needle with that dose vs. 21 gauge needle with the 1.2 dose. The 18 gauge needle is bigger than the 21 gauge. ask for the emla cream as I could barely feel it when I used the cream.

also you are putting more medicine in one spot vs. smaller amount.

I also wanted to mention that taking a hot bath after the injection seems to help the pain.

How much do you herx after that kind of Bicillin dose? That is way more than I take and I am crippled by the herxing. This disease and its treatment sure is different from one person to the other.

I came to this board today to ask how soon after a Bicillin injection would you expect to herx. Becuse I saw a post about bicillin injections I thought maybe this is the place to ask.

I am only getting 1,200,000 units every 2 weeks and that is really hard to handle and I seem to herx much faster than I did on orals. Yesterday I got my injection and now, 24 hrs later, my joints are all aching more than usual and I am throughly fatigued, unable to stand for very long at all.

Could the 'herx' symptoms really be another type of reaction from my body to the antibiotics?

Has anyone heard of another reason to react to abx than a herx? My magnesium levels are normal.

thanks, Jeannie
