I was just on 4 days of Levaquin due to running a high 102-103 fever every night (along with a sore throat and no other symptoms).
I refused Zithromax from my general Dr because it causes a lot of abdominal pain from me.
Everday on the Levaquin within 1 hour of taking it I experienced short 1-2 second tendon pains in random locations.
It was very very mild and so I continued on with it.
After the 4th dosage it started to get pretty bad and my knees were the worst making it difficult for me to walk as they were very stiff.
On the 5th day I finally had decided I was going probably going to seriously hurt myself, if not already, unless I stopped taking it.
So I let the receptionist know what was happening and if they could have the doctor call me.
Supposedly he was in that day, but he did not call back.
Now it is two days without the medication and I am still having trouble. I am having lots of tendon pain in random locations as well as what feels like to me tendon twitching sensations.
I went in again today for another appointment and saw a different doctor who recommend either I just let myself get better on my own, try Zithromax again, or just labor through the Levaquin tendinitis!@!.
Being that I was running a fever for about a month I'm not trusting that I will just get better, so I took the Zithromax.
Now what do I do to minimize the likely that the Levaquin permanently causes me problems?
I'm pretty scared of the tought of possibly having difficulty walking for the rest of my life at the age of 27.
My Dr. made it sound like not a big deal expecting me to surely get better, but I think we know better than to trust everything they tell us.

What to do? Get off the Levaquin ASAP. The drugs in that family can cause problems far worse than tendonitis once toxicity develops.

What is the best Magnesium to "load up" with?
I have the "Natural Calm" powdered magnesium that you mix with hot water. It says magnesium (elemental from magnesium citrate).

I've been taking 1g of mag a day for about a year, sometimes more.
Obviously it didn't do much to protect me.
Still having trouble walking, and have lots of tendon pain in other areas.

I got tendonitis in my Achilles tendons, (back of my heels) and it shot up my calves, also. I ignored it for a while and took the Levaquin for nine days.
It took several weeks for the pain to go away. I had great difficulty walking at all, and stairs were the worst.
About two months later it randomly returned. This has happened twice more. I was on the Levaquin about five months ago.
Also, if I do anything to aggravate that area, the pain returns for a few days. My doctor just acted surprised and offered no answers.
