It's costing me a fortune but I am paranoid about yeast so I figured more was better.
No signs of thrush or mouth issues but I am having some female yeast.
Try to be careful with the diet - good about no sugar and bread but I am eating other carbs like rice and potatoes.
My LLMD told me he thinks that I don't need to take that much and said that since it is bacteria, you never know how too much could potentially effect me. I always thought more was better.
What do you think? Should I dial it down?
TIA, Hatinglyme

Great question. Yes its possible to overload but does this cause an adverse reaction? No!
There are pounds of good bacteria in your gut. And for these to proliferate they would have to take up colony other wise you just pass them out.
There might be some increase in intestinal gas but nothing to worry about. Also your stools might be loose, but diarrhoea is a different issue that is usually cause by antibiotic usage and rarely constipation in my case.
Thats right, biaxin makes me constipated. Apparently the friendly bacteria in our intestines also produce lactic acid which helps the undulating parialstasis of the intestines.

Doubt it. When you're on abx you need all the good gut bacteria you can get. Still the abx end up killing them as fast as you take them.
I recently ran a parasite stool sample through Quest. The findings were normal but it did mention an absence of normal intestinal flora. This is despite daily use of probiotics.
So it's probably better to err on the side of more.

I actually had a friend who felt sick on them. It could be a strain, or it could be that they are fighting the bad bacteria in the gut.

I overstated the cost: it's around $46.00 for 1 bottle of 60 capsules.
Sorry for the confusion. Also, there's a website you can order directly from, but I don't see any real cost savings there.
The quickest and easiest way is to find a Walgreen's or another pharmacy that either carries it, or will order it for you.
Again, this VSL#3 has absolutely help put my gut back into a healthier state ------ after taking over a year of oral abx, along with about 7 months of Diflucan.
After stopping the abx because I was getting sicker from them and loosing weight so rapidly, I was put on a 10-day course of Xifaxan (an abx that only helps rebalance your gut ---- it doesn't go into your bloodstream.)
It was after the Xifaxan that I started the VSL#3. It has helped me more than anything at this point.
Granted, there are more issues to deal with and I'll address them in time. I just need to keep trying to get *something* working right in this body of mine!
Take care, terri3boys
