I just bought my first bottle of Florastor, and I was wondering when I should take it: With abx? With food? With Theralac? Away from everything?

And how much should I take per day, considering I'm on 3 different abx?

One last question: Does it work like Nystatin, ie: a good micro-organism killing a bad micro-organism?

Thank you!

I was told to take 2 per day. Florastor is a "good" yeast that is supposed to help prevent c.diff. It works like Theralac only Theralac is "good" bacteria.

The antibiotics and antifungals (like Nystatin) kill off good and bad flora that is why you need to replace the good flora.

I take both the Florastor(I buy generic) and Theralac (I also take 1 VSL#3 capsule) at night before bed on an empty stomach.

They should be taken at least 2 hours away from any antibiotics and antifungals.

Florastor is a yeast, a beneficial one. Therefore, antifungals such as Nystatin, Diflucan or Sporanox will kill it, so it must be taken two hours away from antifungals.

However, antibiotics will not kill it. Antibiotics wipe out probiotics like acidophilus and bifidus.

So you can take Florastor near antibiotics, but two hours away from antifungals.

You need to take probiotics two hours away from antibiotics.

Florastor has a website that has some good frequently asked questions.

Two a day of Florastor is what I heard and usually take.
