I think I now know what I have. If you read my prior posts, I have been ill for about 1 month. It all started with flagyl. After I started flagyl(I did pulsing last yr too for about 2 months). I started to come down with some cold, then it spread in lungs. I did my 10 days of flagyl, then I switched to pennicllin vk tabs. Well, I started to feel better for a few days, then, relapse. I thought it was resistance, so my llmd gave me levaquin. Felt great for 1 day, then relapse. Went to 4 quacks. So, today, I have throat pain with clear mucus, chest pain, and heart skipping. Quacks told me everything is fine. But, I was sitting and remembering that my llmd told me last week, that yeast produces bubbles in spit. So, then I looked up yeast in lungs, and I think that is what is going on with me. I have white thrush on tongue too. I am waiting for my llmd to call me tonight. Do I jsut tell him what I think I have, or let him diagnose me again. If my mucus is clear, can it be bacterial? And boy do I eat plenty of sweets. Can we kill this thing I have with meds? how long does it take? I have an appointment with the lung doc tomorrow, should I still go? you think they know about yeast? what are the symptoms? Jenin

Hmm. Dunno if I'd necessarily go with "yeast in the lungs" without more confirmation. I would strongly suspect systemic yeast -- a very common problem for Lymies, and for anyone who takes antibiotics.
When you say you "felt great for a day, and then relapse" -- did you relapse, or were you having a herxheimer reaction?
I had tons of clear mucuous at one point--practically drowned in it. I think now it related to biofilms, Lyme, yeast, and coinfectoin. Cleared up with tx.
My first indication of relapse with bartonella was a very sore throat. And throughout my Lyme journey, until I treated babs and reduced my Lyme load, I had skipped heart beats, breathlessness, GI upset, and many other delightful experiences.
I'd definitely jump on yeast treatment, but if you've been confirmed with Lyme or coinfections, don't stop treating them.
Work with your doc on this; if he doesn't know yeast, look for a Lyme literate ND. There are several books on treating yeast -- "The Yeast Connection" is one of them -- and they'll help you figure out a diet. The no-yeast diet is very good for LD patients, too.
There are a number of herbal products, like oil of oregano, Candex, and so on that help with yeast. You'll want a good detox program too. There's a lot about yeast on this board -- you can find it with the search function.
Prescription meds like Diflucan can be very effective too.
You'll need some very good probiotics, too. I use Klaire Labs ProThera Complete; there are other good brands out there too (and a lot of really crappy ones)
Yeast overgrowth has also been linked to heavy metals in the body, and to viral overgrowth.
Systemic yeast is nothing to take lightly -- the die off can make you very sick when you start treating it, and the yeast itself can make you very sick and seriously mess up your immune system.
And, I hate to say it but -- you absolutey gotta lay off the sugar. Aside from feeding the yeast (and the yeast is probably making you crave the sugar), sugar sets off a cascade of interactions that can seriously crash your immune response.

I too have yeast issues and trouble staying away from sugary foods. I am doing better, but not where I want to be for sure!!

Get some diflucan and see if that helps.
Flagyl is one of the worst meds for me for yeast.
It kills all of the flora in your system.
Good and bad.
You need to watch your diet with this medicine.
Also take a good probiotic.
I love diflucan.

I have terrible yeast problems as well. I don't eat a lot of sugar or sweets; I guess it would be worse if I did. My LLMD has me on Diflucan as well as Nystatin. I get "yeast brain" which is similar to the confusion you get from LD.

My LLMD had me on Diflucan as long as I was on Flagyl. Sounds like Flagyl is a big yeast producer.

Anyone know if it would be harmful to take Diflucan more frequently than once a week? I have an Rx to take one weekly but I think I actually need to take it more often. Wonder if taking two a week would be OK?
