My LLMD has started me on grapefruit seed extract for cysts. But a lot of what I read is that people have a big herx on this.

We are planning a vacation and I am thinking maybe put off starting the Grapefruit seed stuff till we get back --

LLMD thought to go for it -- I am also on Doxy 200mg 2xday and Azithromycin 250 mg 1xday. I would be interested in anybody's experiences with herxing - what kind of symptoms did you have?

Although I have not used this myself, I have heard that you can herx badly from this.

Good luck and have a good vacation. If it were me, I would wait until you are home, just in case...

Yes. I used the Nutribiotic drops and don't think I ever worked up to the full dose.

Before I knew about Lyme, I used to take the grapefruit seed extract to help control yeast. Rocky beginnings for sure!

Worth it, I think. Take it with food the way you would Doxy -- it can burn your gut at higher doses if you haven't eaten.

i have been told that doxy and gse should be taken far apart from one another

gse supposedly can lessen effects of doxy if too close

More than a herx. My throat closed on it. This is not an uncommon reaction for me. I'm always ready with benedryl. Just be careful if you're allergic to a lot of stuff.

Thanks, everybody. So helpful. I think I will wait until I get back from vacation to start the GSE so I can be at home if I get a big herx.

Also good advice about taking at the same time as Doxy (I don't want to do anything to mess that up - I have gotten so much better with it).

This board really works!!!

Many thanks.

Yes I have herxed on GSE. Since no one knows the dosage, nor the in vivo absorption, you just have to play around with it.

I had an insane herx the first time I took it as I ramped up too fast. Worst herx I have ever had - could literally not move for three days. That said, it is very effective. I now take it regularly - part of my core protocol.

What is Grapefruit seed extract used for? What do you mean by cyst?

Thanks

My LLMD prescribed grapefruit seed extract - it comes in a tablet form or a liquid form that is put in water to drink. It is just what is says - extract of grapefuit seeds.

The cysts we are talking about is when the Lyme spirochetes go into hiding, creating a "cyst" form that is resistant to antibiotics.

So something like Flagyl (prescription) or grapefruit seed extract -(supplement) "bust" the cysts open making the Lyme spirochetes then available to be killed.

I posted this question because I didn't want to be very sick on vacation from the initial reaction that comes when a new drug or treatment is started causing "herx" reaction -- or when you get worse before you get better.

Hope that answers your question -- this is my understanding -- anybody else can add to or detract.

Thank you Judy.

So a cyst is the same as the biofilm Dr. Mcdonald has found. Is that right?

Do you know of a good brand for the grapefruit seed? Liquid or tablet. Is there any difference?

Not sure it is the same as the biofilm -- not really familiar with that.

My doc gave me Citricidal which I notice states "extract of certified organically grown grapefruit" which is described as from the pulp and seed of the grapefruit. It is from bio/chem Research.

I have the tablet form which is equal to five drops of concentrate.
