For those that have received intramuscular injections...what prompted your doctor to administer that treatment?
I have mild pain and weakness in my left trapezius muscle. It just seems like this is the central location of my symptoms. The right side feels pretty good. Would this be a reason for IM injection? Could this mean that much of the bacteria is located in this area?

You may be referring to IM Bicillin LA injections. You don't inject where your pain or symptoms are. You generally inject in the glutes (upper outside quadrant of the buttocks).
Dr. B suggests that IM Bicillin can be as effective as IV for some patients.
I don't think a LLMD needs any special prompting to prescribe the shots. They are just another antibiotic option in the treatment arsenal.
Perhaps you could ask your LLMD to let you give them a whirl.

I'm starting IM injections soon (as soon as my insurance company and pharmacy get their act together).
I've been on about four months of oral abx, and I just wasn't seeing much improvement. So I asked my LLMD if we could step things up and add on some more intense treatment.
He explained the benefits/risks of both IM and IV abx, and we agreed on starting IM.
Now if I ever get the drugs...
