I havent been to this site in a long time so if this subject has been around before, bear with me please.... I have had lyme for well over 10 years and have been on all kinds of abx treatments...lately I have had problems with my neck constantly cracking and its driving me nuts! I had had it happen to my jaw for awhile last summer and now its moved it seems to my neck....I told my dr. and he said its probably the tendons in that area doing this. I know it has to be from the lyme. Just want to know if others have had this and what did they do to alleviate it other than just waiting for it to disapear eventually as so many symptons do after awhile...they move around the body ...thanks for any info...Jan Posts: 25 | From safety harbor, florida, usa | Registered: Jun 2004

I'm not under any tx for Lyme yet (not offically diagnosed yet either), but I've had the TMJ and the neck problems too.
I'm seeing a chiropractor who is at least familiar and non-judgmental about Lyme.
The adjustments have helped somewhat with the neck issues, so you might give that a try.

Yes, I have the neck cracking. I have had lyme for 10 years also. I have not been on long term antibiotics.
My neck started cracking this past year. I have some other areas in my body that crack as well. My neck is more constant. My muscles in my neck are painful.
I know that neck pain is a lyme symptom I would assume so is the cracking

I too get neck cracking. I can hear it crunching along when I walk - click click click!
It doesn't hurt, but is just annoying.
I find it gets worse when I am herxing. It isn't there every day either, just some days. I have also had cracking hips when I get up to walk which crack really loud, again not painful. I also feel some cracking in my jaw when I eat sometimes.
I asked my doctor about this (not LLMD - none in Aussie). He said that cracking wasn't a symptom, but a result of nitric oxide in the joints. I've read a lot of stuff recently saying that when the bacteria die off they release nitric oxide. I wonder if there is a link here??? Just a thought, I'm no scientific expert by any means!

Hi All
I used to have cracking Everything- It was Babs that caused it for me--
One thing that Really helped me is Glucosamine Sulfate (GS)
I am 100% sure that me tacking GS threw the years has kept my joints in good shape
If I had not taken it Im Sure All of my Joints would be Toast -
I would be in a wheel chair For Sure
GS rebuilds cartilage -- Its as close to magic as medicine gets-- I take 2000mg per day-
Make Sure the bottle says Sulphate on the label--
If the label just says Glucosamine it is the cheaper form and Dose Not work-- Jay--
Once my Babs was treated the Cracking stopped completely--AAAAHHHHH -
Hope th

I have neck cracking all the time. I go to PT weekly, mostly for my neck and shoulders, but she hits all parts of my body. It's amazing the things that she can touch that I can feel in a totally different area of the body.
My PT says that the cracking is really a good thing because it means that there is some looseness there and you're not totally stiffened up. The more you move your neck around - you will crack - the looser you'l be.

I have also had Lyme for 10+ years and experience neck cracking.
I can tell when my neck is out of alignment as it does hurt and when I move my neck it will pop/crack. Sometimes it is so loud that my husband can hear it across the room.
I just started taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin. I'm going to check to see if mine contains Sulphate. Thanks!

Yes, neck cracking/popping is frequently reported by lyme patients - usually before treatment and it gets better afterward.
The Upledger Institute in Florida trains doctor is in a wonderful kind of cranial-sacral therapy. It is gentle (not the snap-n-crack or twist and shout kind at all).
You can search for their site to find a doctor near you. Or ask your LLMD for a referral to someone who also knows about lyme.
Be sure to NEVER have your neck adjusted with a sudden twist. VERY bad for lyme patients.

I've benn off treatment for 4 years, and still have some leftover neck-creaking. It has gotten MUCH better, but I'm resigned to the fact that there's always going to be some... For me, stretching exercises, etc. are probably good for it. DaveS
