i have been sooo ill this week. as ya'll know i went to the er, spent 8 hours, blood all normal, ct and x-rays normal (of abdomen).

but i'm still having really foul smelling very loose watery stools. maybe 2-3 times a day. my lower abdomen, below the navel is very sore.
i am nauseous and feel like my head is going to burst. my ears are stopped up and my balance is way off -- no walking a straight line for me!!

my arms and legs feel very week and i have cramps and my face feels numb.

no fever tho.

i have restarted the flagyl at 250 per day and diflucan. i started the first dose yesterday.

i can't afford another er visit and my gastro can't get me in until APRIL. of course, this is the guy that for over 20 years has said i just have "IBS"....

i'm scared to death of c. difficile. they had it on the news last night about a woman who had her colon removed and it said c. difficile cases are climbing at an alarming rate and that now it is resistant to all antibotics.

can anybody help?

i used to be fairly constipated and have, hmm, very solid stools, normal brown., but now everything is cream to white...

I'm sorry you've been so ill. I hope you can find someone who will help you get well.

I don't have any info about c. difficile, though.

Your PCP can run a test for c.diff. Hope this helps!

Isn't flagyl the treatment for c. diff?

I know my LLMD has me take one 750mg pill a week to prevent c. diff.

Hugs,

Geneal

foul smelling stools can indicate C. diff. You need to see a doctor, or go to a walk in clinic or the ER to rule C. diff in or out.

Good luck, Timaca

C. diff is easy to test for with a stool sample. I had it and it is no fun and can kill you. Docs normally prescribe vancocin (vancomycin) to treat it. Get tested for it right away if you are in pain.

I seriously doubt that it's C diff since you have been checked for that already at least twice in the past when the same Sx's were present.

It's probably intestinal parasites (microscopic) such as Blastocystis Hominis, Entamoeba Histolytica, or Giardia. These three will all cause foul smelling stools.

E Histo will get in the liver and damage it, as well as the bile ducts (Giardia too), which could account for the pale stools.

These are all extremely difficult to get rid of when Flagyl has been used as a stand alone therapy. The Sx's will come back very quickly if the Flagyl is stopped.

what about a call to your LLMD or PCP to tell them what is happening?

the symptoms you are having are to acute to wait until April

Did the ER have a GI consult? foul stool like that tells you there is a problem, c-diff would be on the rule out lits, but as posted earlier there are other diagnosis to consider as well

flagly and diflucan are "standard" GI presciptions given for the dont-really-know

think PCP or LLMD on monday would be better, at least they know you and your case. They could order stool testing.

best wishes

YOu need to go back to the ER! Whitish stools usually mean liver problem. I had that symptom when I had hepatitis many years ago. Is you urine a dark color?

Also had c.dif. a few years ago. I don't think you have that, as you will "go" 20 times a day non-stop, and will usually start with flu-like symptoms and joint pain. Also, Flagyl is what they gave me to get rid of c.dif, and it worked.

I am not a doctor, but you should go to ER now! -Paul
