OK, I am on klonopin (sedative), armour (thyroid), estrogen, progesterone and atenolol (beta blocker......supposedly it isn't affected by rifampin like the other bb's are).
From what I have read, rifampin affects the absorption of these.........can someone help me please?
I am having to start out slowly because I herx like crazy on EVERYTHING, so I am taking 150mg once a day at the moment, planning on doubling soon.........it has only been a couple days and I am scared because of past reactions.

Hi Tif,
Yes you are exactly right. None of the meds you are on interact with each other until you add in the Rifampin and here is how they change when you add the Rifampin in.........
Causative Agent = The drug, substance or genetic allele causing this interaction.
Description Percent Extreme increase More than 150 Substantial +75-150 Modest +25-75 Minimal Less than 25 Modest -25-60 Substantial -60-90 Extreme decrease -90-100
So If your doc wants you on this drug he should take in to account your other meds as he may need to alter them accordingly. You can enter your own drugs in and checkk them on the genelex programme www.genemedrx.com
Hope that helps Rianna

Maybe you could take the Rifampin when you wake up in the morning then take the rest of your meds an hour or 2 later with breakfast??? Just an idea.
Really it would be best to talk with your doctor or pharmacist so that they can come up with a safe and effective dosing schedule for you.
