I'm sure someone will be around with some info soon. I've heard that Coffee enemas work good. Get's the bile moving. If you search the site I'm sure you'll find alot of info on liver detox.

Hi Steve,

I have been give SO many ideas, but my memory is so bad that I only remerber one!!!!! Sorry!

That one--LOL--is Milk Thistle. I know that this is something that many reccomend taking this on a regulare basis as it supports the Liver. As far as detoxing, I would think it does.

As Fancy said, there will be many that will reply that have a lot of experience with this. You maybe be able to find it in BettyG package or Tincups for Newbies. It is at the very top of 'Medical Questions', and I would bet there has to be something in there.

Take care!

Google "Gallbladder/Liver Flush". It's not fun but very effective. I've done a few of these.

Milk Thistle is a very good liver detox. I take it twice a day with meals (600 mg)

There are also Herbal Detox Teas that detox the liver.

As others have said, Milk Thistle is tops - but there are times and meds that it has to be adjusted or avoided. NAC is another good one.

Coffee enemas may sound strange but can be quite effective now and then.

Sometimes, though, just a nice tea is good. Massage can be wonderful as can a warm bath (or an infrared sauna if you can swing that).

Rather than "detox" as an event (that sometimes can be too much or too strong if overdone), I see it as on-going support. Everyday, you have to consider how kind you are to your liver.

With lyme being so toxic and the addition of meds, protection for the liver is absolutely essential. While this concept seems foreign to the way our medical system has been established, you can protect your liver.

======================

This book has some good suggestions specific to lyme patients.

This book, by an ILADS member LLMD, holds great information about treatments options and support measures:

THE LYME DISEASE SOLUTION (2008)

- by Kenneth B. Singleton , MD; James A. Duke. Ph.D. (Foreword)

You can read more about it here and see customer reviews.

And, some support suggestions, here, too:

Nutritional Supplements in Disseminated Lyme Disease

J.J. Burrascano, Jr., MD (2008)

============

While this is not at all a book about lyme, you can search some individual herbs here to learn more

- and also to on to search "LIVER" and learn way more about how it works. The liver is absolutely fascinating.

The One Earth Herbal Sourcebook (Tillotson, et.al)

be sure to search:

Milk Thistle

Licorice

Sarsaparilla (or Smilax) - it is the only reference to lyme in that it's been used for generations to help reduce toxins with another spirochetal infection that is similar in some ways to lyme.

NAC

================

You can also search for medical abstracts on each of those at
PubMed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez

=================

These authors suggest licorice can help block the lyme toxin:

BIOCHEMISTRY OF LYME DISEASE: BORRELIA BURGDORFERI SPIROCHETE / CYST

by Prof. Robert W. Bradford and Henry W. Allen

EXCERPT:

. . .

A discovery of great importance relating to a toxin produced by the causative agent of Lyme disease, Borrelia burgdorferi, has been linked to a similar toxin produced by the organism Clostridium botulinum.

. . . .

- Full article and great photos at link above.

-----------------------------------

NOTE OF CAUTION: While this is an excellent article regarding the information about the spirochete/cyst, there is one serious caution with one of the treatments suggested: Bismuth.

Bismuth, in various forms or methods of use, can (and has been) fatal. So, cross that off your list. If you download the article, please copy and paste this note to top your page.

Reading - and learning - about the nature of this infection is invaluable. The authors offer much in that regard, I'd just wish they'd adequately cautioned bismuth.

Sorry for so much. I love the liver, as research.

Here's just one more good basic article - with explanation of why some of the supplements are suggested:

The Liver: Detoxifying This Vital Organ Nourishes Overall Health and Vitality - By Sherrill Sellman, ND

The liver is an amazing organ. After the skin, it is the second largest glandular organ in the human body. It is made of highly vascular tissue, holding about 13 percent of the body's blood supply at any given moment.

The liver performs more than 500 vital biochemical functions. . . .
