Quick question.

We're about 90% sure my hubby has lyme. I'm just wondering if constant congestion and phlegm issues can be caused by lyme? He has no virus issues or anything like that. His doc believes he has lyme.

His congestion and phlegm has gotten so bad at one point that we thought he had pneumonia, but turned out not to be. It's better now, but still there... He's always coughing and spitting up phlegm.

We even went to the doc and he had a nose swabbing done to see if that showed any fungus or anything and that came back negative/clear.

I've seen congestion and phlegm listed on some lyme symptom lists as a lyme symptom... but just wondering what other people thought and if anyone here has that same issue???

Thanks!

You just made my night! I have this symptom too and I've posted about it before and no one responded.

I know it's Lyme related for me because I've been in remission before and it goes away!

I've recently had a setback and guess what's back with it? Constantly coughing up phlegm and very congested feeling lungs.

I actually went to the doc last week to make sure I didn't have pnuemonia myself it got so bad - I didn't.

I would love for others to chime in on this, because for me I know there's a connection and I can't be the only phlegmy one in the bunch!

I go between being stuffed up to a constant drip. I cough incessantly. The phlem comes about after coughing. It's clear. For me they say it's the babesia. Theresa

I have had a dry cough will phlem that doesn't come up and it all started with this recent flare up the beginning of Oct. I had never coughed so hard. Altough it has died down a bit, typically every night it starts up again. You can hear it when I just lay there and breathe but I can not for the life of me get anything out. I was starting to wonder if it was also caused by LD.

I see alot of this in my 6 year old.

I've posted before that he had a terrible bout of coughing over a year ago which seemed to evolve into just a horrible nasal drip at night when he lay flat.

Even during the day when I tickle him on his back he laughs but struggles for air because his sinuses are dripping and he is so congested laying down.....so I stop tickling. I'm affraid he'll have a stroke or something. Then he'll sit up, cough, and move on with a moist nose until the nightime gulp of mucous.

It's been more coughing, since we started Zith and Bactrim for Bart. But, I wonder if this is Babs. He has eye trouble too. Not sure what. He complains of marble sensation in his eyes. I don't know if this is related......ugh!!!!

I just wish I could be him for a day so I would know what he's experiencing.

These symptoms are year round now. They started 1.5 years ago. I do not think their allergies.

From what I understand, your body makes phelym (spelling??) to mask the infections (fungial, bacterial, viral) and that is one of our bodies lines of defense.

I used to get sinus/bronchitis/ear infections all the time. I had lots of phelym. When I went to the Fibro and Fatigue Center, they discovered I had yeast in my blood and stool. When I started taking diflucan on a daily bases for 4 months, and took this nose spray (specially compounded) it helped A LOT!!

I haven't had a sinus infection or bronchitis since May 2008. I now take guifenesin daily (4 tablets) and a psuedofede daily. Keeps my stuff from getting thick. My mucus would get stuck in my chest, and I coughed all the time trying to get it up. My nose was also completely closed (stopped up) but would run, if that makes any sense at all!!

I even have scars on my lungs and ear drums (I would assume nasal cavaties as well) which showed up in my X-rays. So, I am sure those things helped me a lot.

What was your infection, Needs?.....just yeast?

My son also has a left tonsil which is larger then the right tonsil by alot. They did an MRI of his head a few months ago. The doctors came in afterward and wanted to look at his throat.

They acknowledged it, but no other doctor really has since.

I do think he has some kind of immune response to something...but what, and is that causing all the symptoms I see?

At the time, the Fibro and Fatigue Center told me that I had Low NK cells, adrenal fatigue, low thyroid, and my iron was low.

It was about 5 months later when they tested me and I found out that I had Lyme, Erhlichia, and high Cyclomeglovirus and HHV-6 antiboities.

I also have lots of trouble during allergy season, but until I went to the Fibro and Fatigue Center everyone just told me that I had Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia.

I did read a book about the Inflammation Nation, and they think that diet has a lot to do with allergies, sinus issues, diabetes, asthma, yada yada is based on inflammation. It made sense, but seriously I haven't followed the diet.

Oh, and my tonsils were the largest any doctor had ever seen. I had to be careful eating because I would choke.

Would suggest you get yourself DNA tested for Wheat/Gluten/Dairy allergies, etc. Read my posts on www.allergie-immun.de (English). A regular blood test will not be conclusive.

Take care.
