Hi all and thank you for your time.

I think I have a new tick bite, but I am not sure cause I have NO Idea where I would have got it from.

If you get a bite, does a bulls-eye rash show up right away?

==========================================

I have Lyme now...diagnosed March'07 after being misdiagnosed with RA for 8 years.

I am very sick and rarely am able to leave the house. Lyme has destroyed all the cartilage in both wrists, knees, right elbow and shoulder and some of left ankle. I just turned 29.

==========================================

For the past several nights I have been very sick:

Migranes ( which I never get )

Night sweats ( rarely get )

Increased pain to the point where I couldn't get out of bed, lift the covers off or hold a cup
( this is with lots of pain medication in my system)

Last night I noticed a mark on my hand that looks EXACTLY like the mark I had in '97 only smaller. I looks like a mini-bullseye BUT has the coloring of a bruise.

It doesn't hurt like a bruise and I didn't hit my hand.

==========================================

MY QUESTION:

The only 2 places I am able to go are the Doctors and to Dog Agility. My Mom runs with my little puppy.

The last time I went to Dog Agility was 2 weeks ago and yesterday.

Could I have gotten bitten 2 weeks ago and the mark is just showing up now ? ( maybe thats why I have been so sick for the past 4 nights ? )

I pet a TON of dogs there. Lots of working, outdoor-sy dogs...Aussies, Border Collies.

My puppy goes out for a walk everyday with my Mom but there is about 5 feet of snow on the ground so she can't play outside during the winter. I live in Saratoga Springs, NY

Could I have gotten it from her ?

I am going to the doctor on friday...Dr C. I am on Zithromax now.

Thank you for your time.

Jamie and Sable ( my puppy who is here with me and sends her hello and warmest puppy kisses )

I don't agree that one is protected while bitten and doing abx. For many abx are failures.

We never know just what was injected into our bodies from that tick, mite, mosquito, spider etc. Was it carrying a bacteria(s), protoza, parasite, virus, etc etc????

So you just never know?

Hello Jamie,

I'm going to say yes to all your questions. That only my option!!!

I had my frist rash for 4-5 months and then went away.

I don't think I was ever bitten again but my rash has come back 2-3 times in the past year and stays for about 3 weeks.

Here some photos at the link below.

I hope your feeling better,
Steve

A bullseye can show up at literally any time--even years after the bite. The absence of one right now certainly doesn't mean you weren't infected, and neither does he fact that you're on an antibiotic. There are over a dozen know pathogens that you can get in North America from a tick, and probably only a few of them can be effectively addressed with monotherapy such as you're on.

With the size of these tiny ticks. Who can really say if you were reinfected or not.

It could be an old rash coming back or a new tick bite. Since beginning Abx one yr ago, I have had the bulls-eye rash come back a couple times now.

I don't think that just because you are on a particular abx that you are necessarily protected from a new bite though.

It probably is a good thing that you are on Zith, but with this disease there are cycles and who really knows how well the zith is working at any one given moment in time. And, if it was a new bite there are so many different strains and coinfections.

I would keep your doctor informed of this new rash and keep taking your abx.

Jamie, it seems pretty unlikely that any ticks are active this time of the year - they can not live indoors very long, especially this time of the year when the air is so dry. We did have a couple of days of thaw a few weeks ago, but everything is still under a couple feet of snow.

You are already on azith and are going to see the Dr. on Friday, so you are doing everything you can in any case.

Sorry to hear that you are not doing well - with the wrong RA diagnosis they probably offered up injections and prednisone I would imagine. Those are a real problem for Lyme patients.

You got sick about the same time as my wife - she just started treatment too, she had a SLE diagnosis years ago. I wonder if you see the same Rheumatologist?

Hope you feel better and enjoy your puppy!

There was an article in the paper here recently about someone who got an attached tick in minus 8 centigrade here in the winter.....they say it is possible.

Don't make the mistake of thinking ticks are only active in spring/summer. Total IDSA hogwash. I photograph ticks all year long and I live in a pretty cold place (northern California) with lots of snow and freezing temps. My last bite/attachment was in February. It is a year-round problem.

This just proves that there is so much bad information out there on ticks and their habitate and livelyhood and ticks borne illnesses that they can harbor.

Can't just doesn't seem to be part of this case. This tiny bad son of a gun can do anything it damn well pleases.

JamieLiz, there is something you can do that might help prevent re-infection, even at this point. See this thread - link below - the protocol is spelled out close to the top in the first post there. And you will see later in the post:

``Alan (the author) was bitten by a tick some years ago, got the classic bulls-eye rash, etc. But by using this protocol, he never experienced any Lyme symptoms. I myself had a small bulls-eye rash appear on my chest last May. I followed this protocol and did not notice any worsening or additional symptoms.''

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/66773

There's more information on where to get remedies, etc. on the thread.

Homeopathics WILL NOT INTERFERE with your medications. However, medications can interfere with the efficacy of homeopathic medicines in some cases, so the worst that will happen is nothing.

Anyway, just a thought...... [Smile]

Just a quick update :

I am really quite sick at the moment so this will be short and hopefully I will feel a lil' better soon and can answer people back.

1.

THANK YOU for all of your responses and input. I appreciate is so, so, so much. You were all very kind to help.

2.

Doctor says yes I was most likely bite again based on my rash and the infectious-like symptoms again. It's like my whole body is having some crazy inflammation response. Everything is red and swollen.

3.

I was put on Amox. and Zith. for the next 3 weeks and will have to pray my stomach ( gastritis ) stays in check.

My stomach has been my biggest obstacle in taking antibiotics. As soon as I add a second antibiotic the searing, burning starts again. Yuck.

THANKYOU again for your time and thoughtful responses.

Jamie and Sable ( my doggie / nurse / caretaker / constant companion and soul mate )

P.S. Advice from Dr's office : STAY AWAY from other peoples dogs and NO petting. This is heartbreaking for me becasue the best medicine for me is being around doggies [Frown]
