Okay, I believe that my grandson's autism has something to do with lyme as my daughter's tick bite was misdiagnosed and untreated before she had her son. I think autism may also be multi-causal.
She has been leary of having him vaccinated because of all the controversy and feeling that it may be another assault on a weakened immune system.
Hard to swallow the news items saying "no proof" or "not enough proof" which doesn't really rule it out. So now I see this press release and it makes me more suspicious. Still wondering.
Generation Rescue - Press Release
Below is the press release that was issued to the media this morning. If you have any media contacts, please feel free to forward this to them with encouragement to tell this story.
Thank you for your support and efforts on this important day.

Government Again Concedes Vaccines Cause Autism
Mysterious Vaccine Court created in 1986 by the pharmaceutical industry, with the support of Congress, rules in favor of Bailey Banks against HHS.
Los Angeles - February 24, 2009 - Generation Rescue, Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey's Los Angeles-based non-profit autism organization, today announced that the United States Government has once again conceded that vaccines cause autism. The announcement comes on the heels of the recently unsealed court case of Bailey Banks vs. HHS. The ruling states, "The Court found that Bailey would not have suffered this delay but for the administration of the MMR vaccine...a proximate sequence of cause and effect leading inexorably from vaccination to PDD [Autism]."
In a curious and hypocritical method of operation, the mysterious Vaccine Court not only protects vaccine makers from liability but supports a policy that has tripled the number of vaccines given to U.S. children - all after being made aware of the fact that these vaccines do, in fact, cause autism and repeatedly ruling in favor of families with children hurt by their vaccines.
"It was heartbreaking to hear about Bailey's story, but through this ruling we are gaining the proof we need to open the eyes of the world to the fact that vaccines do, in fact, cause autism," said Jenny McCarthy, Hollywood actress, autism activist, best-selling author and Generation Rescue board member. "Bailey Banks' regression into autism after vaccination is the same story I went through with my own son and the same story I have heard from thousands of mothers and fathers around the country. Our hope is that this ruling will influence decision and policy-makers to help the hundreds of thousands of children and families affected by this terrible condition."
Banks vs. HHS is the second known case where the Vaccine Court could not deny the overwhelming evidence showing vaccines caused a child's autism. The first was the case of Hannah Poling in March of 2008, where the court found in her favor and awarded her family compensation.
Jim Carrey, Hollywood legend and Generation Rescue board member, reacted to the news, "It seems the U.S. government is sending mixed messages by telling the world that vaccines don't cause autism, while, at the same time, they are quietly managing a separate 'vaccine court' that is ruling in favor of affected families and finding that vaccines, in fact, were the cause. For most of the autism community the question is no longer whether vaccines caused of their child's autism. The question is why is their government only promoting the rulings that are in favor of the vaccine companies."
Why is a secret court, which no one knows about or understands, quietly paying these families for vaccine injuries and autism? Deirdre Imus, Generation Rescue board member and founder of the Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology says, "Over the past 20 years, the vaccine court has dispensed close to $2 billion in compensation to families whose children were injured or killed by a vaccine. I am not against vaccines and my own child has been vaccinated. But, I share the growing concerns of many parents questioning the number of vaccines given to children today, some of the toxic ingredients in vaccines, and whether we know enough about the combination risks associated with the multiple vaccines given to children during critical developmental windows."
To help spread the word of the Banks ruling, Generation Rescue also bought a full-page ad that will run in the USA Today on 02/25/2009, which has a daily circulation of 2,272,815.

Your mailbox is full so I'm answering your message here -- hope you don't mind.
Thanks for your detailed story, Alv. My grandson has had many types of treatment but we are in Canada and would have no medical coverage in USA. If we can raise the funds we may end up there some day.
He has allergies to some ABX used in the past for ear infections so I'm not sure if ABX is safest way to go at this point.
Doctors here will not accept IGENEX as proof of diagnosis or probably the other US labs too. They are lyme denialists for the most part and will only give the Elisa (almost worthless) test.
The one lyme doctor we had near us was hounded out of business by college of physicians putting him under review. Same old story.
My grandson is non-verbal other than a few food words like "pizza" & "juice", so I don't know if he realizes he is not normal. Maybe so as he gets older.
He is being homeschooled as at 6 yrs. he is still not potty trained and I think it's possibly something to do with mercury exposure from his Mom having her almagams removed when she was just pregnant and not realizing she was pregnant yet or she wouldn't have had it done then.
Anyway, we are not giving up and still exploring all treatments.
That's great that your son can do his homework and is able to realize he is different to other kids because although it is sad, he is at least aware.
It's like my grandson lives in another dimension not really wanting or caring to interact with the rest of us.
I hope your son continues to improve -- you are a wonderful parent.

Hi,
Just my opinion as I am not a doctor, but I would not give a vaccine to my child if s/he was autistic. My children do not have autism and none of them have any vaccines.
Yes I've had an angry ER doctor (my son fell and sliced his lip open when he was 16 months old) tell me that if my son gets measles he will be sterile and how can I do that to him...blah blah...
I've had 2 pedatricians turn me away because I am a 'non-compliant' parent. They can think whatever they want, as I will do anything to protect my children in the best way I can.
Now that I know I have Lyme, I am so thankful that I didn't vaccinate them. Esp since my son has some lyme-like symptoms (he has an appointment to see Dr. S in PA in April).
Yes, they are not supposed to be adding mercury any longer, however, I have read that the vaccines still use mercury during production and then it is supposedly taken out last minute.
How much actually is removed, I don't know.
And now, instead of mercury, they are using Aluminum! Let's see Aluminum and Alzheimers... hmm....
I actually educated my child's pediatrician on the AL in the vaccines now. She told me that they no longer used Mercury to which I informed her about the Aluminum, she said, "Really? I hadn't heard that!"
And I am a nurse and have searched the vaccine boxes for a list of ingredients. There are NONE! So unless the doctors are calling the drug companies, they don't know what they are injecting either!
OK, stepping down now... I happen to feel very strongly about vaccines and I have several friends with child who are autistic from what they truely believe was created from the vaccine.

Thank you, Ocean. I agree it's difficult with the doctors & schools making you feel negligent for not vaccinating when you are just doing what you believe is the best thing for your children.
It is hard not to cave under that pressure so kudos to you for having that courage.
Well, it doesn't seem that they have made vaccines any safer by just replacing one neurotoxin for another does it?

The aluminum has always been there. They didn't replace the thimerosal with anything. They changed the multi-dose vials to single-dose vials, so the thimerosal was not needed to keep the vials sterile between uses. Many vaccines still contain "trace" amounts of mercury left over from the production process, which is 0.3 mcg, instead of the previous 25 mcg.
Most flu vaccines still have 25 mcg of mercury.
I would absolutely not vaccinate a child with autism. I believe that not vaccinating my children (before I even knew they were born with Lyme) was the only thing that kept them from developing autism.
Here's where you can find the package inserts to all the vaccines, which list the ingredients under the heading, "Description." Click on the blue links. http://hopkinsvaccine.org/thi-table.htmPosts: 311 | From CA | Registered: Jul 2008

My friend's autistic child is making incredible progress with biomedical treatment under the care of a DAN doc. It takes a long time but it works.
Abx don't work in many cases for children born with autism. In the case of my friend's son abx make him worse (no herxing) because his gut flora which is bad in autistic children anyway, is even destroyed more.
Dr. J said something about the success rate of abx treatment in autism:

I would never give vaccines if my child is autistic, but would inform myself about all possible ways to diagnose and heal bad infections that vaccines could 'prevent'.
I had given vaccines to my child before I knew this controversy, and I regret having done that too early. She had strong eczema and several allergies since she was a baby, and when she was finally bitten by a tick at the age of 2, her immune system collapsed and she fell sick with lyme and all possible coinfections.
I don't think the only problem in vaccines is mercury. Just try to get a list of WHAT is inside each vaccine. It's for me, disgusting to read the lists.
This is only my own opinion. But I know many too many medical doctors who don't vaccine their own children. This means, there is clearly controversy.
There are just two types of medical doctors concerning vaccinations:
- side one says you MUST vaccine all children, it's criminal if you don't, the more vaccines you give, the best for your children, nothing proves that vaccines cause autism or death, or any immune problem.
- Side two says, too many vaccines make no sense, if one has to give vaccines, think well which ones, and when to give them, but don't do that blind. We know very little about possible side effects LONG TERM, so being on the cautious side is best. There seems to be some connection between vaccinations and autism.
It's up to us, parents to decide.

Looking, has your daughter read the book ``The Impossible Cure'' by Amy L. Lansky? If she's looking into alternative options for treatment, she might want to look at this book - might even be available at a local library.
Here's the link to the page about it at Amazon.com. Lots of reviews, and it got a 5-star rating. Anyway, just a thought.
Product Description Impossible Cure: The Promise of Homeopathy provides an in-depth and exciting account of the history, philosophy, and experience of homeopathic medicine. At the core of Impossible Cure is the amazing story of how the author's son was cured of autism with homeopathy. It also includes dozens of other testimonials of homeopathic cure, for a variety of physical, mental, and emotional conditions.
Impossible Cure will serve as an invaluable guide to anyone interested in learning more about this intriguing form of health care. It has won endorsements from leading experts in alternative health care, including: Larry Dossey, MD (executive editor, Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, and author of Healing Words); Bernard Rimland, PhD (director, Autism Research Institute); Wayne Jonas, MD (director, Samueli Institute, and former director, Office of Alternative Medicine, NIH); Michael Castleman (author of The New Healing Herbs and other consumer health books); Louis Klein, RSHom (president, Luminos Homeopathic Courses); and Richard Pitt, CCH, RSHom(NA) (director, Pacific Academy of Homeopathy).
About the Author Amy Lansky graduated from the University of Rochester in 1977 with degrees in mathematics and computer science. She received her doctorate in computer science from Stanford University in 1983. After many years working at various Silicon Valley research institutions, Lansky made an unusual career move -- she became a student, writer, promoter, and, most recently, practitioner of homeopathic medicine. This was prompted by the miraculous cure of her son's autism with homeopathy. She is dedicated to helping others -- especially families with autistic children -- discover the curative powers of homeopathy.

Just for the record, both my parents and I had all our vaccines as children (I'm in my mid 20s), with no ill effects. This is back before the majority of metal-based preservatives. I was never sick with anything for years, before Lyme, and there are tons of people with no ill effects.
That said, the vaccines themselves are not the problem. There ARE vaccines out there without mercury or aluminum preservatives. They DO work. There's a reason that smallpox was pretty much eradicated in a generation. By all means, be careful. Find vaccine variants without harmful persistent preservatives. If you're worried about an over or underactive immune system, limit the amount of vaccines given at once. Sure, take some toxin or metal-binding over the counter compounds as a prophylaxis. However, discounting that ALL vaccines are bad, ineffective or worse is not a good idea. We don't want others to ignore emerging science regarding our illnesses, so we can't panic and become luddites either.

do not vaccinate with "mainstream" vaccines. Find hollistic vaccines, they do exist. Japan does not innoculate before age of 2 yrs old, and they do not have an autism epidemic like we do here in the U.S. Spread out your vaccines, look up Dr. Mumper, I believe she designed a safe schedule for vaccines. Blackstone,
You should check out a graphical depiction of the cases of disease over the last century. MANY (most notibly Polio)were already on a steep decline BEFORE the vaccine was introduced.
I hear everyone puppeting what the medical establishments (particularly PHARMACEUTICAL companies) try to feed into people's minds....that THEY are our saviors...without vaccines we would have perished as a population.
It's simply untrue...but then again, I've never trusted the bullies with all the power either.
My mother (born in the 50's) was never vaccinated besides Polio. She got all the diseases (measles, mumps, ect), she lived through them and she's a very healthy person today.
It's funny because when I had blood titers drawn for nursing school, most of them were very low (lower is worse, meaning you are more susecptible for getting the disease again).
However, my chicken pox titer was very high, I want to say almost 4 (the others were barely 2 I think), because I had actually had the chicken pox. It offered MUCH more protection because my body had already had an all out war with it.
I would very well get measle, mumps or rubella because I've never had it. Plus with the MSG and chemicals and for those of us opposed to abortion (ALL MMR vaccines are grown from a fetus aborted in the 1970's), or animal derivatives, it's just not a feasible option.
If you do have knowledge of a vaccine without any ingredients of a toxic nature, PLEASE send me the info, I would love to send it to my No-Vax mom's group.

I'll see if I can dredge up the list I found awhile ago. Many of them are created outside the country, I remember.
Vaccines, in some form or another are undeniably useful. Even since the first recorded use of infection by cow pox to inoculate against small pox, the concept of giving your immune system something to fight against that it "learns" how to kill, has been accepted science. People who object to the usefulness of vaccines themselves, not to dangerous binders and whatnot, scare me.
If you'd please show me any data from a non-biased source about the decline of infectious diseases before the advent of their vaccines (especially small pox and certain childhood illnesses), I'd like to see. IF you'll check out WHO documentation from the 50's - 80's there is a data that shows that smallpox vaccines were the primary reason the disease has been nigh-eradicated.
Don't forget that just because your mother survived and gained the immunity conferred by infection with those childhood illnesses, many other children did not. Vaccination saved many lives that would have been ended by the measles or whatnot.
As far as long term immunity is concerned, I believe that is why there are booster vaccines for individuals in high-risk areas. Susceptibility is a funny thing, too. For instance, you may have low titers because a disease or vaccination was administered a long time ago, but you are still protected. Your chicken pox titers may be higher not because you actually had the disease, but because the disease itself is still present in your tissue. I've read reports that individuals with the chicken pox vaccine have a similar presentation. Chicken Pox is a herpetic virus and as such can be rendered dormant, but it never totally leaves the body. Most people are never bothered by it again, just like EBV after mono. However, your titers will still be high. Same thing for some bacterial infections like tuberculosis.
I can't promise the "good" vaccines I've found don't have ANYTHING that someone would object to. Some may have been grown in gelatin mediums, animal products etc... its unfortunate but much of our medicine comes from sources we'd rather not. I am sure they don't carry the "heavy" toxins like metals and whatnot, but as far as something like sodium benzoate or any of the other "we'd rather avoid" compounds, I can't say I remember. Thankfully, our bodies come in contact with these "light" toxins every day and most of us can process and eliminate them without much trouble!

I think they give the kids too many vaccines all at once...thereby contributing to the problem. As kids, my generation only got DPT shots, and at separate times, smallpox and polio vaccinations.
Autism was unheard of...so whether it's cause and effect or maybe just overdoing it on the fragile and succeptible nobody knows.
I sure wouldn't give a kid the current barrage of shots all at one time though.

I forgot to add, we must also acknowledge that the knowledge/increase in handwashing is a very important factor in not spreading disease.
Women often died after childbirth due to infections caused by unclean environments. It is rare that this happens now. I had homebirths with my children and had a healthy delivery/post partum period and know other women with similar stories.
When I worked in the NICU we had an increase in infection with infants (e-coli was one that 3 neonates had at one time). Physicians, RN's, RT's and Lab techs were all warned and given a presentation on proper handwashing in the NICU.
The rate of infection reduced drastically after that.
I'm not sure what you mean as far as rates of infection pre/post vaccines? I have not found any graphical depictions on any Glaxo-Kline websites and I don't think I will. They certainly do not want the news out that vaccines are not everything they are cracked up to be!
It also astounds me when their is an 'outbreak' of measles and they focus on the 'unvaccinated' children. They emphasize the 3 who were not vaccinated and quietly mention the 30 who had been vaccinated who STILL aquired the disease.
That to me, is NOT immunity and means it does not work.
Whooping Cough was at my son's school last year. Even so, he did not get it. Keeping a child's immune system strong with fresh foods is the best thing, much better than any vaccine laden with preservatives and chemicals.
Have you heard of the person who challenged that any doctor/researcher willing to drink the contents of a single vaccine would be awarded $25000? So far, no one has taken him on the offer. Injecting the substance directly into the blood has much more dire consequences than swallowing it.
There are pediatricians who will vaccinate in their practice, yet their own children remain unvaccinated. I know why.
Anyway this is a petty quarrel and nothing to do with Lyme disease. I think we should concentrate on geting well and if someone wants to vaccinate their own child, they have the choice. I just wish some of my own friends whose child has been harmed with vaccines had ALL the information necessary (instead of big pharma hype) to make their decision. I feel badly for them.

In regards to smallpox. Back in the early 1900's a doctor by the name of Dr. A.R. Campbell claimed that smallpox was actually spread by BEDBUGS. And all that you had to do to control the spread of smallpox was to prevent bedbug infestation in your living space and working area.
I have no idea if any of this is true or not but either way I thought that it was rather interesting.

I've not heard of that before, and bedbugs may or may not be an additional vector, but I know that direct human-to-human transmission was proven as early as cowpox was used as a vaccination!
Transmission of smallpox occurs through inhalation of airborne variola virus, usually droplets expressed from the oral, nasal, or pharyngeal mucosa of an infected person. It is transmitted from one person to another primarily through prolonged face-to-face contact with an infected person, usually within a distance of 6 feet, but can also be spread through direct contact with infected bodily fluids or contaminated objects (fomites) such as bedding or clothing. Rarely, smallpox has been spread by virus carried in the air in enclosed settings such as buildings, buses, and trains.[16] The virus can cross the placenta, but the incidence of congenital smallpox is relatively low.[4] Smallpox is not notably infectious in the prodromal period and viral shedding is usually delayed until the appearance of the rash, which is often accompanied by lesions in the mouth and pharynx. The virus can be transmitted throughout the course of the illness, but is most frequent during the first week of the rash, when most of the skin lesions are intact.[15] Infectivity wanes in 7 to 10 days when scabs form over the lesions, but the infected person is contagious until the last smallpox scab falls off.[17]

Thanks to everyone who responded. I've been away from the board for a few days as I was baby-sitting my grandkids while their parents were at an autism conference.
For now, my grandson will remain unvaccinated as we feel this is in his best interests.
Thanks for all the info.
Take Care.
