I thought you needed to stop abx in order to start an antiviral. I am continuing to take Doxy, and just started Valtrex 500 mg bid.

Just wondered if others have taken both at same time?

LLMD didn't comment if he will raise the Valtrex dose. Thanks for pointing that out.

i know of no reason why you can't take an antibiotic & an anti viral @ same time. I take doxy & famvir daily.

I took valcyte with malarone and biaxin.

However, now my LLMD is taking his patients off of

Antibiotics in the initial course of valcyte.

There is a loading dose now for one to two weeks.

Weekly blood checks.

Then the normal Rx. of 500mg twice daily (if I remember correctly).

Hugs,

Geneal

I take doxy (for Cpn). I'm on acyclovir instead of valtrex for viruses, since my doctor did not want to overtax my liver (acyclovir is the active ingredient in valtrex).

So, it can be done. Just make sure your liver or kidneys are not being overtaxed.

Best, Timaca

Timaca, I was going to ask for acyclovir to save money.

Can you tell me what dosage you are taking?
And thanks for the warning.
