Was chatting with one our of super-researchers on here recently. Based on what she had found, I decided to add Lysine and lactoferrin to counteract what may be the "mystery bug" --- apparently the mystery bug may feed on arginine, and Lysine counteracts this, and lactoferrin in large doses starves all pathogens of vital iron, while binding it in such a way that it promotes our own bodies' absorption. Whoops, except Bb that is. Both babesia and bartonella need iron.

I am cautiously optimistic and told my LLMD that my sore foot soles and back pain and twitching had much diminished since the addition of these two supplements! It's the only thing new I have done, so I must attribute it to these two things. Hooo-ah!

I have been supplementing Lysine for the past four years. It has cleared up any of the herpes outbreaks I used to get on my face (I have a positive HHV6 titer).

My daughter has started supplementing lysine for the past six months. What does lactoferrin do.

Three grams of Lysine? My daughter is taking 1500mg, and I take 750mg. I guess we'll work up to more.

Where's a good place to get Lactoferrin? Vitacost?

CD57,

This is exciting news. I would do anything to be relieved of sore soles!!

I've taken lysine on and off for years (recently went back on) but haven't taken Lactoferrin. Now that I am positive for Babesia Duncani, this sounds like a good addition to my protocol.

What brand do you use, and what dosage? Any mandatories about using it with or without food, away from antibiotics, etc.?

Thanks - and keep up the good progress!!

Jill

Lactoferrin, I believe the protocol called for 2000mg/day. The Lysine is also 2000mg/day.

I have been buying Jarrow brand for both, from vitacost, much cheaper.

Hi CD57,

I was reading on the Internet after your post, and it said that lactoferrin is a sub-fraction of whey. I drink whey protein shakes every morning and my brand of whey seems to have lactoferrin in it. I've been doing this for years, but have no idea what kind of dose I'm getting.

Just passing this along, wondering if you take whey powder along with your lactoferring and lysine.

Jill

Hey Jill, no I don't take whey powder.

Kelmo--see my explanation in the first post for what lactoferrin does.

Jill E,

Have read that lactoferri is not real well absorbed. Probably not enough in whey to make much difference. Colustrum supplements would have more, but still not as much as the concentrated lactoferrin supplements.

Hubby took one bottle of a chewable tablet (VitaCost private label brand) but it is much more expensive and he couldn't tell if it worked any better than either the Jarrow or Nutricology (Laktoferrin) brands.

I'm going to start taking Jarrow lactoferrin. A gal I know used to have frequent upper respiratory infections and sinus and no longer has them when she takes lactoferrin.

I'm also taking transfer factor and its packing a wallop (flulike symptoms--) so I may pulse it 3x weekly.

Yes, I love Lysine. Even just a nature made brand works wonders. When I take it I get no cold sores when I let up, back they come.

I crush them and make a paste and place it right on the cold sore, clears up in no time. Someone told me this years ago and it was the best advice!

Works better than prescription meds which gave me migraines.I'll have to see about the lactoferrin.

Thanks, Bea,

I was guessing that the Whey powder probably only had small amounts. I will try the supplements.

I am really encouraged to hear this news! I hope your progress continues!

I am wondering how long after adding the lysine/lactoferrin supplements that you began to see results.

My second question would be about what other supplements are you taking. There was a thread a few weeks ago about magnesium chloride and B6 that sounded promising. How do people go about adding in new supplements? A few at a time? Or do you always consult with your LLMD first?

And do any of the above help with insomnia? My sleep has been pretty crummy lately.

If the improvement in symptoms was in fact due to lactoferrin or lysine, it took about a month to notice a difference.
