this has been a big problem for me for many years

it is especially bad when it comes to keeping the house and stuff organized and also keeping bills organized-esp saving receipts to help get med exp back on inc tax

when i crack-it is usually about one of these two things

the clutter and "all the parts" are so hard for me

if it was just money in money out i could do it...but there's so much junk mail to read thru and decide if its impt or not and so many other things to keep track of-statements, contracts, etc

AND ITS ONLY ME NOW-THE KIDS ARE GONE...how did i ever do it all and work full time and commute and have a barn full of horses???

last year it was oct before i got my taxes done and i stressed the whole time

this year i got them done in feb and the next day found a bunch more med deducts...but so far i have just let that go

i decided that wouldn't happen again...but so far i have not figured out a way to sort and file bills receipts etc that works...and it is MARCH!!!

anyone else like this? anyone figure out how to handle it?

i'm so disorganized i'm not sure if this belongs in medical-but i think it does because i know it is coming from a brain infection

There is a web site called Fly Lady that might help all of you.
I did it for several months an was getting my house in order then I quit it for some reason or another.
When I tried it again it just didn't work for me. I do however think it is really a good site for this problem and it is free.

kayak,

hubby used to do the paperwork which i did in my former job for 13 years so he volunteered keeping it up.

then his tremors have caused him to lose all his handwriting ability and LEGIBILITY. so it's mine.

we have a 3 ring binder with 2-3" capcity thick.

have TABS for all our utility bills and arranged A-Z.

as bills come in, i now promptly write checks IF needed as we have AUTOMATIC PAY ON ALL OUR UTILITY BILLS but the other ones: mastercard and newspapers.

the bill paperwork is then posted behind the TAB utility for that payment; MOST CURRENT ON TOP.

TAX DEDUCTION STUFF GOES IN MISC. FILE TAB
******************************************

since yearly we have normal TAX entries, i show the names on them on the sheets.

set it up this way:
*******************

payment date, NAME OF BILLING CO...county courthouse, check no., amount,

YES/NO, for is is a tax deduction or just a MISC. bill

things going in there are:

county courthouse for twice yearly payments;

county courthouse for car license;

4 yearly federal tax payments pre-scheduled;
i show the quarterly dates and then show the date paid and check no. for all 4 entries as they are paid.

lock box amount

separate sheets for DR. BILLS, RX MEDS, foot care for diabetes feet,

MILEAGE trips...i use a special calendar recording ALL DR. APPTS., then use the date of EVERY RX MED GOTTEN, plus any trips to specialists OUT OF TOWN like my des moines hip surgeon recording ROUND TRIP MILES for each time.
miles are then added up for my yearly total.

use bank statements for HEALTH INSURANCE DEDUCTED EACH MONTH times 12 months

use our retirement paper, IPERS in my case, for MONTHLY MEDICARE DEDUCTED by 12 months.

special sheet for keeping track of my CHARITY MILES LIKE LYME !!

ALSO FOR LYME EXPENSES...printing copies of my handouts, etc. for setting up lyme educational table, etc.

kayak, the thing i learned long time ago from dad since he did the paperwork, WAS COME HOME AND DO IT PROMPTLY putting it in the file. i paperpunch the bills recording date paid and date and circle amount.

don't let them lie around; that's when they don't get paid.

i note on my kitchen calendar when june/dec. home taxes are due as a reminder.

i was late on 2 quarterly tax payments this year. were NOT written down anywhere, so sent them when i remembered writing 2 checks vs. 1 for 6 months. ... uffda.

it takes effort; but if i do it right away; it's not nagging at me later nor my hubby nagging; get it. [Smile]

yearly; clean it out for NEXT YEARS DEDUCTION records. file orevious year away in a file cabinet in an envelope AFTER TAXES HAVE BEEN PAID OR REFUND RECEIVED!

we SHREDD utility bills; things we don't need, and try to go thru the OLDEST CHECKS by shredding them too.

i need to clean out 2 of our 4 drawer files not; they are jammed full. but here i sit...

later; hope this helps you/others. [Smile]

date of payment, name of clinic/hospital, etc.,
check no., amount, and a column for RUNNING TOTAL for the clinic/hospital.

BEFORE I USE THESE SHEETS; i make copies from my pc printer to stock up for several years.

kayak, you are welcome; i don't remember as i get around 20 pms and regular emails daily so i can't even say who i talked to.

when i get off here; i go to bed unless i can't sleep and then i read a book...pj langhoff's 3rd of 3 books series,

THE BAKERS' DOZEN...all about IDSA and has over 1000 links of info; small print and that is really bad for MY low vision/lyme sensitive eyes.

i am in bed from 8-13 hours unless the darn phone wakes me like this am!! then it's too hard to get back to sleep.

then after i'm on here after getting up; another 1-3 hr. nap!!

thank you god for a wonderful supportive husband who'd like to eat by 6 pm but lately it's 8 pm by time we're done! [tsk]

Ditto to all of you on the problems with disorganization!!! I grew up in a nice, clean and straight home and I'm embarrassed to say that mine is none of those most of the time!

Flylady has been a help to me. If I could stick to it more than a couple of months at a time I would be in good shape.

But, even though I leave off a lot of the things she recommends, each time I try I'm left with another good habit so, it's all good.

My husband and I are both being treated for lyme. He runs his own business from home and our shop which I help with some and we have two small children that I homeschool.

Anyway, you can imagine the mess between paperwork, in & out children and husband, schoolwork, bills, cooking...it gets a little crazy!

By your name you and I probably have something in common.
Any way that is the problem I have---sticking to Flylady. When I did it the first time it was awesome. I slowly was getting my house organized, clean and clutter free.

Then I was away from home for a couple weeks and when I returned I just couldn't get started again.
I wish i
t was a little less confusing. It seems like I spend all my day reading on her site and not getting anything done.

I have an addiction the the computer anyway.

Suggestions sugarfreak???

kayak, i've mentioned to hubby before about turning off the phone, BUT YOU NEVER KNOW ABOUT EMERGENCIES.

i've got the phones in house on low tone except his is FULL TONE since he's got a broken ear drum and other one he perhaps hears 25-35$ plus/minus.

everything is super loud; and me SUPER LOW due to this dog gone lyme affecting my hearing, eyesight, smell, and loud sounds....

Sick,

Funny, you asking me for suggestions! [Smile] I can't stick to it well, either. But, I would say I had the same problem with being on the internet reading too much & sometimes I just have to stay off!!!

Anyway, I try to follow her advice about making my bed everyday & getting dressed & fixed up because it always makes me feel better. Then, I try to control what I can...set the timer

The timer can be motivator.
